Hi,

I am having a colonoscopy on Friday. I took a Nal last night (Tuesday) at 5pm. They are giving me a twilight sleep and I am afraid it will not work with Nal in my system so am not taking any tonight or tomorrow. Here are my questions:

1) If I drink tonight without Nal will I completely reverse any ground I have gained? I want to have a big steak since I cannot eat anything tomorrow (the day before the procedure) and want wine with my steak!!
2) If I drink tonight without Nal will the amount still in my system from yesterday still be effective?
3) Do you think by Friday morning 7am the Nal will be out of my system enough to not interfere with any meds they may give? It will have been 65 hours
4) I have not seen much extinction in the 5 months but am giving it a solid 9 months. I typically polish off 1.5 bottles wine but can go now with just 1 which I guess is some improvement. Maybe less craving but the psycological "gee I really want the buzz and the escape" is still there. Maybe just less "urgent?". Do you think it's working
5) I purchase from River but the package is from India....do you think it's legit stuff?
6) Does it hurt to be taking Nal pretty much every day for this long?

Thank you so much for all your help I get so much benefit from reading all your posts!!!

Thank you for the answers. I have not confided in my doctor for insurance reasons. I realize
no one can give medical advice however given it will have been 2.5 days without Naltrexone would it
be reasonable to assume there would be no effect left? I don't have the book in front of me but
I thought Dr. Sinclair said if you have Nal on Friday night, Saturday is a wash out day and then Sunday night
do some activity you want to pursue (exercise, for example). This would lead me to believe the effect of the Nal is out
of your system. Is this not correct?

Thanks again

same answers as DOMD

plus

as I understand it, there is a difference between the effectiveness of Nal wrt the Sinclair method and the effect it can have on any other medication - these time windows can be different.

Bottom line - don't play games with your health. Tell the doctor you've taken Nal. If you're that concerned about insurance tell a white lie that you took someone elses tablet by mistake, e.g. you thought it was a paracetamol

Hello,

I just went through this and posted it but agree with everyone.

I had surgery and was prescribed opiates....I quit NAL 3 days I think before surgery.

I was taking 10 mg of oxycodone and it didn't seem to do much but then again I was later told that was a small dose as I don't know pills just booze. But I was thinking that maybe NAL was effecting the receptors for longer than the 2 days after wards. By the time 5 days had passed I really didn't even need the meds,...I think I stopped after 3 days....

There was a comment maybe by Lena talking about how NAL possibly affects opiates differently than what we're using it for, blockage of endorphins for alcohol.

I hope that helps. For me in the future, I will stop NAL one week ahead of surgery and hopefully the next time I won't be addicted so that won't even be a problem. Either way though, my fear that I would go off the deep end for a short moment off NAL was unfounded in my case.

I hope that helps, Best, Jim

PS I did not lose ground on my TSM. I drank without NAL for a week. That being said, I was glad to be back on NAL. I didn't improve but neither did I backslide.

Thanks Jim,

In my case it will be 62 hours without Nal. I take it you had no ill effect from the surgery meds itself? My only concern is the meds they are going to be giving me for the actual procedure which is a twilight sleep (benzo's mainly). I will not be on any pain meds after the procedure and the whole thing is only 30 minutes. I called and mentioned to the staff about the Nal saying I am taking low dose for Fibromyalgia. They didn't even really know what it was but said "if you have not taken any in two days you should be fine". Personally I don't think they even know but don't want to raise anymore red flags about it if I can help it. I mean what's the worst that could happen... the pain meds would not be quite as effective ? (I know the benzo's should still work with regard to the twilight sleep). Getting really nervous as again I don't want to make a big deal about it. All literature says allow 72 hours (which I am close to) to be off Nal before surgery. Again, this is a colonoscopy not a surgery so it's not like big league stuff....still...

I am looking for someone to say I will be okay LOL

Thanks again!
Colery
