Well, I decided to start over on the TSM. I was on NAL for 10 weeks last year and the nausea got to me so bad that I stopped. I got my NAL refilled this weekend and I am starting today. I hope in a few months that I will be able to post in "The Cured List " section. I will just take it day by day. I do know that while on NAL I did feel like drinking less. I think I need to make more freinds on this site to maybe turn to in the near future. Any takers?

Sure JHP, I'll be your friend and you'll be surprised how many more people here would be happy to be your friend.

I'm not here all the time, and this is my first post, but I'll be friends with you! I just started this last Sunday, and so far, it seems to be going pretty well. I didn't experience any nausea, though, and I think someone else said it was a better indication of early success if you do. I have prayed for years to not want to drink, and when I learned about TSM it seemed like a prayer granted, so I have to give it a fair try, right? ;) Best wishes to you!

JHP & marilynnea -
You will have plenty of friends here. It seems like the nausea early on is an indicator of success, but not always. Just keep doing what you're supposed to and know that there are plenty of us here at varying stages willing to offer support.

JHP, just stay w/ the low dose for a week or so til your body can handle it. Even if you're taking a quarter tablet, then half, then 3/4, then a whole tablet over the course of a month or so...may work best for you. Good luck!

I took 1/2 pill yesterday (my first since starting again) and tolerated it well. I felt the effects last night for sure. I only had about half as much to drink as normal. My wife said that I never got "the look" which means I have a certain expression on my face when I have had too much. Anyway, thanks to all of you for your replies and I look forward to the future.

JHP - welcome back to TSM. You'll find that we are all friends here on TSM and anytime you reach out, someone will be here for you. Nausea is something that many experience but the standard is only two weeks. You said you were nauseous for 10 weeks? I didn't have any but know from reading that titrating up a little slower like Houtx mentioned and also taking with food helps some.

Also, don't have high expectations for the cure in a "couple of months". You'll note from this forum that it is taking much longer than that for many of us.

As for the spell check, you can go back in and edit a typo. It's been commented that we wish there was a spell check! We all do it

I think some of us don't experience nausea because we have abused so many other things the minor discomfort of nal is minimal. I wish you the best.

I hope you are doing well. I too had horrible nausea on 50 mg. and had to stop just after a few days the two times I tried it. But because nothing else has worked, I am going to try again--I still have a prescription--except this time starting at a lower dose and see how I do. Best wishes!

I too have sever nausea and body aches when I take Naltrexone. I have tried titrating up from 12.5 to 25 to 50 but just could not tolerate it. I am sure that some of my physical anguish is withdrawal but I have been staying at 12.5 mg niow for a month and it seems to have the positive effects without the negative side effects. I used to drink a mind staggering 129 units per week and by the second week was down 23% to 86 units per week, (almost a whole 1/2 gallon less). Now, after a month it is not uncommon for me to drink only 2 units(drinks at night), I could easily go AF a few days a week but I take my medicine to be safe and then feel I better at least drink something. I can honestly say I havent felt the "glow" or buzz for over a month and even though I am still drinking, I feel cured in that I no longer feel compelled to get blot-o every night. My wife is so happy she is even taking her first golf lesson tonight to reward me for "coming back to her". So maybe 50 mg isnt always necessary.
