Just wondering if anyone who is a wine drinker has had the following experience on Nal:

1. Wine starts tasting like crap, especially red wine. Even the good stuff. I used to LOVE red wine, now I can barely stand it.
2. A lot less wine gets me a lot more buzzed, and the hangover is worse. I'm talking about migraine-strength headaches after five glasses, when I used to drink 10-15 without a problem.
3. When drinking on Nal I get irritable as hell. I have to constantly remind myself not to start an argument. Before Nal, I was a fuzzy, happy drunk.

Now, don't get me wrong: I am totally grateful that TSM exists, and the cure is more than worth all of these side-effects. I consider myself on the cusp of being cured, and it's a GREAT feeling. I'm just wondering if others out there had these same experiences.

Thanks!

1. No. Wine remains delicious. Maybe there were one or two nights where the first glass was not as expected; but by the bottom of the glass it was tasty as ever.
2. Yes. Oh lord, yes.
3. No. In fact, I am probably more pleasant to be around now (if I must say so myself).

1. Yes. Chugged a bottle of port on Jan 3rd because I was on a mission to get drunk. Other than that the last wine to touch my lips was 1 1/2 glasses on Thanksgiving. I just can't drink it anymore.
2. No. Actually, I don't know. See above.
3. No. But the 'magic' is definitely gone.

1. Definitely this has been my experience. I believe the phrase "paint thinner" has been used, and to that I would add "antifreeze".

2. For sure, especially with the hangovers.

3. This was especially true in the early days of tsm for me. Just the nal alone made me irritable, which was a lesson for me: maybe everyone else isn't an asshole, maybe I just need more endorphins in my life!

Yes, I have had this experience with wine as well.

I used to absolutely love red wines. Especially a really good Pinot noir. Where I live is known for Pinots.

However, now I can't even gag down one glass. Red wine now makes me ill to even smell it. I can barely drink chardonnay, but I mean barely.

In general, I don't enjoy the taste of AL any longer, but wine is the most difficult for me to drink now.

1. Pinot Grigio drinker here. Lately the first few sips taste funny, but by the end...I have always loved my white wine.
2. OMG definitely more drunk and worse hangovers. I can usually drink a bottle of Pinot a night and get up with hardly any feeling of a hangover, but I recently drank my bottle and was sooo groggy and nauseous the next day, I felt like I was going to throw up while driving to work.
3. No difference in mood...not ever a mean drunk...just now, I seem to get drunk easier.

This thread is good. It will help us wine drinkers figure out if we are similar in our experiences and if we are on the right path to extinction.

Thank you all for your posts. Although I wouldn't wish any of these side-effects on anyone, it's nice to know I'm not totally off the curve.

As far as being irritable on Nal, my doctor has theorized that Nal + AL is affecting my dopamine levels. Since it blocks endorphine receptors, does it also block dopamine receptors? Too much free dopamine can cause aggressiveness, or so I've read.

Dunno.

I also wonder if wine drinkers have additional triggers, due to the fact that wine is often associated with food.

wine is my drink of choice and it hasn't tasted good to me since I first took my initial Nal but have I stopped drinking it, NO, ah addiction!

Yes, I think I'm more prone to getting upset but I sometimes think it's because I'm frustrated on not seeing results from the Nal yet.

Let's see triggers. . .with food, after work, after a good work out, watching TV and the list can go on for me.

2 weeks on Nal and my Pinot Grigio still taste good. I did have a 5 day honeymoon where I went AL free some days and only a couple of glasses others but now back to a bottle plus when I drink. I am going to try very hard this week when I take Nal not to drink over 2.

Have not notice any mood change.

total wine drinker here, wont hardly drink anything else. I am now on my fourth week of Nal and the wine still tastes the same.. good! I too had a honeymoon period and was not able to drink more than 3 glasses in one sitting. Last night I ran out of wine and did not go running to the liquor store so fingers crossed here
