I was out of town - was supposed to be a day trip, no drinking planned. I forgot my Naltrexone.

While I was on the road my car started acting up so while in my destination city, I went to a relative's house for the afternoon to fix the car. They offered me a beer and later, a glass of wine - I accepted both, as working on a car w/o beer is just wrong.

The good news: I didn't really want any more after the glass of wine and didn't have any that night or the next day (when I got home). If it hurt me to drink w/o Naltrexone, it seems to have been minor, unnoticeable amount.

The bad news: I broke the cardinal rule and I'm a bad, bad boy.

Seriously, don't try this at home. It's not worth the risk. I mention it mostly to remind everyone to stash Naltrexone in several places, one or two of which should be with you at all times (e.g., wallet, purse or car).

You dodged that bullet.

Find a secret spot or two to hide some tablets. I keep two in the coin thing in my wallet. Containers on key-chains, amulets, body-piercings, hide-a-key …

I am terrified to end up without.

I now count days on Nal, rather than drinking days.

Hi N101CS. That's right. You did not walk into a pub at 16 and automatically 'be an alcoholic' - it takes time and many sessions worth of drinking to learn the addiction ... anyway drinking once after de-addiction / extinction will not get you hooked but try it a few times (not saying how many because I do not know) and you'll be back where you started. It's like snakes-and-ladders. Tis not worth braking the cardinal rule because of the implications. I know that those among the rural poor in India where I worked with alcoholic villagers who ran out of money for the medication ($1 per tablet there) reverted back to heavy drinking - through lack of money not so much through negligence.

RV- Consider your wrist slapped.

I liked the idea from one of the subjects in the book (Paul?) who had a locket made that he could wear round his neck and always carried 2 pills in there.

I am on the look out for something similar- in the meantime they are at home, in my car, at my work and in my purse :)

I had a similar situation but believe it or not I was amazed I did not drink!! I drove home to see my dad who is in hospital 2 and a half hours away for 2 nights and forgot my Nal. Realized I did not have it and forgot it halfway there. I just got back to the city and took my Nal , waited 45 mins and am now having my second drink. I fortunately did not drink while I was away. It was a stressful time though which is a trigger for me. I am happy I made it home before anything major and happy it wasn't a longer visit. I found the Sinclair method harder at the "all inclusive" resort in Mexico fron Feb 20 -27th. What I did there was take my Nal before drinking at all but I had to take it every day, because I was having a few drinks everyday. Not usual for me. Wishing all the best.
