Actually, back in August 2009, we did mention that over there and that thread or post (I can't remember now) was deleted by the mods.

It's hopeless over there and I mean that in a very literal way. Remember that AA has cult-like practices, so they will defend that faith with Crusade-like zeal.

5% attain it through alcohol self-remission with no program, drug, or protocol whatsoever. A few studies show that it has a higher success rate than AA.

My father exhibited a form of alcohol self-remission. He went from being an alcoholic to a daily moderate drinker to a sporadic light drinker as he got older. His circumstances changed each time for the better, so I think that's part of it. But I am ecstatic that he never got involved in AA or any other 12 step program. He would have been one of those Big Book thumping zealots.

This is a great, great thread.

If we're interested in getting the attention of people that are looking for help, getting up in the google rankings would be a big help. I only
found this by looking for something along the lines of 'alternatives to AA'. A bunch of blogs that link to one another like this: help for alcoholism would help get the rankings up. Google is pretty smart. It ranks pages in part by how many links to the page there are, what the text
of the link is, etc. So a bunch of links about alcoholism between different sites would help.

I am sure thats why sober recovery won't allow any links on their site...will interfer with their marketing plans

I have what think is a great idea. Have we had any members go in under the radar, act like card carrying members of a 12 step program(I could because I like a few others here know everything about AA and could come off as legit), and PM these poor souls our forum who are suffering?

Just a thought....Jim Clark

not a good idea Jim - it will be found out fairly easily, and be bad for the reputation of this site.

If people do a search over there for naltrexone they'll find enough to be able to locate us using google. That is enough IMO.

They have their own site and are entitled to make rules. There are plenty of them who I'm sure are 100% sincere and imagine us to be delusional alkies trying any trick to stay drinking - they might decide that they are doing a good thing by going 'undercover' here. Think how we'd feel.

N101CS did a super job w/ the meta tags when he set up this board. I see the Google bot here quite often when I am here. I used to place links to this board fairly often on MyWayOut. Links are always welcome there. hose of you who post there might want to do that. Another thing is to do a Google search for sinclair method, then click on the little greyed-out arrow next to every entry that is a link to this board. That really boosts the relevance rankings. Also, we might look around for other sites or boards that might tolerate or even welcome links. Any suggestions?

Yup. Whatever y'all think of the people who own and moderate the site, the people I've interacted with over there are on the level about either offering or receiving help. Y'all differ only in your methods, and not in your sincerity. Those few regulars here who appear from time to time to tell their stories in a non-confrontational way do this site a favor, and certainly helped to motivate me to try Naltrexone. I believe the AA'ers refer to that as maintaining a program of attraction rather than promotion. I doubt you'd win as many converts though confrontation and guerrilla tactics.

Meta tags do very little for Google rankings these days. The Google spiders ignore most meta tags( http://www.seo-theory.com/2008/05/20/do ... meta-tags/). Our current Google ranking is due to the fact that were referenced in The Sinclair Method Wikipedia document until very recently. Google loves Wikipedia.

We recently lost this reference, but we are still coasting on the momentum from this reference. Over time, Google will forget were were associated with Wikipedia.

The best way to increase our Google exposure is to include links to this site at other sites. Blogs are the best way to do this.
