I had discussed with Dr E an increase in my does a few months back because 1. I'm a binge drinker 2. I've had gastric bypass surgery and was afraid I was not the full does because I mal absorb most vitamins and meds because they go directly to my lower intestines.

I had talked my doctor into giving me a script for NAL but under the guise of using it without drinking. During my every other month visit with him he suggested I could be bi-polar but on the lower side which could explain not drinking until much later in life (41). He suggested that I up my dose to 75 or 100mg a day for a month and see if I feel a difference. He said that there was no danger or side effects until the dose was over 300mg a day. I will have my liver tested every other month.

I have decided to up it starting today and try it for a month, I will keep you posted.

Providence, I always read your posts and relate to a lot of them. Please do let us know how the 100mgs. work for you. Many of us are thinking about upping our dosage also. Thanks

Hey all-
I have been on 75mgs just the last week but am upping it to 100 tomorrow. I just hope this makes a difference. I really am expecting a miracle. Of thinking, like Bob,Q & Firebird, etc, that the switch will miraculously go off and I will just think ehhhhhhhhhhh about having wine. Can't imagine.

The problem is, I have my little comfort zone of coming home, drinking wine & getting on the computer. I worry I will drink thru the ehhhhhhhhhhh feelings. Hoping this works for me. Holding hands w/ the bunch of ya - Koombayah!

All,

I did try a couple months back take 100mg but every 12 hours. The problem with that was I am a binge drinker so it's not like I was drinking everyday, sure it would help on the weekends when I'm drinking all the time, but not really during the week when it's days before I drink.

Yesterday I went to 100mg an hour before drinking. I have to tell you the first ones went down like acid. It didn't taste good at all. There was no buzz factor, I did get drunk just not stupid, black-out kind of drunk. On a normal Sunday I would do an easy 24 units (US 12oz beer) was cut down to 10 and I couldn't finish the last one.

This morning I woke up with no desire to run to the fridge even though it's a holiday in the US.

Not saying that it works it's only been 1 day, but I'm willing to keep giving it a go.

I will keep everyone posted.

Hi all,

You know I upped to 75 mg. a month or so ago, and I do believe it's made a difference as I'm consistently drinking about 1/3 less than I ever did, starting much later in the day. . .and really, I think I'd have more AF days (had a few, and didn't miss the AL), except that my sleep is so disturbed when I don't drink anything that I feel worse the next day than if I'd gotten tanked. When my consumption is down to 5 units or less a day, then I'll try for more AF days, as the withdrawal won't be as difficult, methinks. Wine truly is losing its grip on me, slowly but surely.

Yesterday I also decided to up to 100 mg., as it's a safe dosage and I've also had gastric bypass. My thyroid medication, for example, has to be double the normal dose - why would naltrexone be any different?

Will keep y'all posted!

Providence, Going4more, ART, Houtx and WaitingtoExhale,

Thanks for keeping us informed on your increase of dosage. I feel that this should be under its own separate heading for Lo0p's data and those of us that are likely to follow. Also others that are considering an increase. I started April 4th and have been drinking for 30+ years and daily at that. While I have reaped benefits from this method (which I wouldn't give up for the world*), I still drink too much and want to be where Bob and Firebird are with their drinking.

I am ordering more Nal from AlldayChemists and when it arrives I will be joining you. In the meantime, I wish you all continued success and we shall see!

Also a special welcome to our several newcomers. You really have a treat in store for you! And its is great having Going4More back. You were sorely missed!

BB

*I am drinking at least a third less, never act foolish or blackout and certainly don't have the urge to "throw 'em back" that I used to prior to TSM. But I just want AF days with ease. AND I KNOW THEY WILL COME.

I'm glad those with gastric bypass seem to be getting results with a higher dose.

Did someone once suggest crushing the tablet with gastric bypass or conditions that might compromise absorption? Anyone doing this?

Well I can't explain it either...but am feeling a slight difference. Which is HUGE in a way! LOL
Had been on that 75 mgs last week, then 100 only the last few days. I dunno - it all tastes the same, I am having no side effects whatsoever, but I haven't been knockin' 'em back the same way. I can just tell - I'm not having that "OH YEAH, BABY" feeling at every sip (only the first few LOL)

I'm not going to put this under a microscope, but I'd say this last week I've averaged a drink or two fewer per day. Yes, I'm still counting, but don't want to bore you w/ the numbers. Suffice to say, I am cautiously optimistic....but am encouraged! I am feeling something of an ehhhhh feeling the last few days & also a bit of heartburn after about #2. Hmmmmm....

I swear if this works, I am going to build a shrine and worship at the alter of the Divine Drs. Sinclair & Escapa! Ya Ya!!! LOL

Hi Lena,

Yes, Dr. E suggested I crush the pills and take with yougurt - but ugh! - they still tasted terrible, and left a bad taste in my mouth.

Since it's obvious Nal is having a positive effect, I thought I'd give up crushing and just up the dose.

I can recommend a reputable pharmacy (Naltrexone) - http://alltabstore.com I received the order and it was on time and the pills work great.
