I assume RR, like most of us, work off the same ISP provider most of the time. The administrators here should be able to check IP addresses, and that would tell you if a poster has more than one identity. If you block a banned member's IP b/4 exterminating their info from the board, they won't be able to come on board using the same ISP service.
That might work, except that:
1) It would deny anyone in the area of Colorado where he lives a chance at solving there alcoholism; and
2) He could use an anonymous proxy that would be undetected as his originating IP address to gain access.

Lena is correct. If he reappears and does tone it down and writes informative and thought-provoking posts, so what? We all benefit. The jokes on him.

minneapolisnick is also correct. He seems to have an inner need to impress everyone with his "dazzling intellect", so an alternate persona will unlikely remain undetected for very long.

I for one do not plan to be sleuthing about, tracing ip addresses or ISP's. I'd rather read the thoughtful posts from the amazing members of this community!! As many of us say, everything happens for a reason and I sense a renewed spirit of gratitude for this community we have built since the brief outage was fixed.

I also feel that the way the members dealt with this "incident" shows how we have grown in mutual respect and trust. We of course did not all have the same perspective or opinion but comments and attitudes reflected a real concern for the well-being of the community. We should all be proud of that.

I also think we all owe a debt of gratitude for the several of you who refused Guess Who's request to be "ghost posters" for him. That decision reflects not only personal integrity but respect for the community.

I think I've hit my limit to what I can contribute to the dialogue about this saga.

As a staunch member of the church of whores , I take offense at the comment previously posted. HA ha . Totally kidding. LMAo :D :D :D . I wouldn't know how to detect a person if they were standing right in front of me. I am book smart but otherwise pretty absent minded. I still don't know how to put someone's quote into my message and I have been here since the site began. Techno wizard that's me. :)

You're not alone. I copy and past quotes but it doesn't come out the same way as when everyone else does it.

See the 'quote' button at the right side bottom of each post? Hit that, and then begin your post a line or two beneath the post that comes up in your reply box.

You'll get there, dearies. . .

That figures. Every time I ask a computer-related question, the answer is easier than 1 plus 1. But for some reason, the questions just keep on coming. I chalk it up to extreme impatience or a mild case of ADD. Although I was never diagnosed with ADD. My dad used to tell me, with a devilish grin on his face, that my case was just borderline.

I agree with N101CS. RR is not a bad guy. He just isn't very good at communicating tactfully. This upsets people, so they start lashing out. It isn't like he's coming on here and posting insults or threating people. If you don't like what someone is saying, stop reading. :)

The only behavior that I find disturbing is the PMing new members. If RR is really doing this, then he does have some issues.

Bottom line is that it is next to impossible to REALLY ban someone from a message board like this. Even if you ban a persons IP address(s), it doesn't take a rocket scientist to come via a web proxy where you can change your IP address everytime you come in and make it appear as if you are coming in from a different state or even country.

Best policy for dealing with a trouble maker is to simply ignore them. IMO, people are getting way too worked up about what RR was posting.

Agreed. RR just didn't have a sh*t filter - I recognize the syndrome, as a fellow sufferer!
