Hi Q,
I appreciate you circling back and talking about this alternative therapy. TSM doesn't work for everyone....and so far not me either...but fortunately I wasn't far enough gone to so far pull it together.
I wish you well and hope that you are finally on the other side.

All the best.

Started TSM Aug 2012. Had some success but over time the Nal SEs were so awful that stopped taking Nal. Managed a 30 day (Sept 2012) and 46 day (Feb/Mar 2013) AF period which also contributed to getting drinking under control.

I too would be very interested to hear from Q, now that more than a few months passed after his cure by aversion therapy.

I'm doing great.

I finished the entire Schick Shadel program: 10 Day treatment, plus 2 day recap and 30 days, and a recap at 90 days. Just did my 90 day recap in mid-may and it was a very unpleasant experience. The recap includes a sleepy treatment and a duffy treatment. The duffy treatment at 90 days was difficult for everyone. At 90 days, my aversion to alcohol was very strong. I was throwing up after smelling the first shot of vodka, so you can imagine how I felt after having to do 15 of them.

The Schick program does exactly what it says it is going to do. It gets rid of your craving for alcohol and replaces it with an aversion to it to the point that I get nauseous at the smell of it.

There are times I think about and miss the high/buzz that alcohol brings, but when I get these feelings and actually think about drinking (the taste and smell), it turns my stomach.

Out of the 40 or so people I went through Schick with, I know of only 1 who has relapsed and he was treating for both alchohol and cocaine. He relapsed on cocaine. I keep in contact with many of the people through email/txt/phone and everyone is holding strong.

I can truly say that Schick Shadel changed my life.

Thanks for this update Q, I'm sure others will also find it useful and it might well be an option for someone who can't wait the time TSM takes.

Can you come back and let us know how you are in say 6 or 12 months?Or even sooner if you feel like it and have the time?

Or for those that TSM simply doesn't work for.

Schick Shadel is pretty big into addiction research. While I was there, I sat in on a talk by the head researcher, Dr. Ralph L. Elkins, about addiction and the brain chemicals involved. These researches believe the mechanism of alcohol addiction are driven by dopamine. I know that TSM says the addiction is driven by endorpines. I have no idea if there is a connection between these two brain chemicals, but there seems to be ALOT of research behind the studies done at Schick and the University of Washington (I believe).

Here is a really good video I watched while up there about some of this research. It is kind of long, but interesting if you like to know the details about things (which I do): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxiKVQR ... 37FD4C3FD1
