I welcome alternative opinions on this very important matter. But in my opinion AA is literally killing people by denying sick people information and access to medicine that will literally save their life. It's criminal.

My alternative opinion:

+1 to all of the above and I believe that those that are knowingly perpetuating this are going to rot in hell.

Well said, Nick! I share your passion.

I remember when I started my attempt at sobriety way before finding TSM, I attended lots of AA meetings. I told them I didn't need a spiritual awakening, because I was already spiritually awake. I remember being shunned and chastised by one person at a meeting because I brought my Bible instead of Mr. Bill's Big Book. I finally stopped repeating their repetitious empty mantras and prayers at each meeting and stood in a corner with my head bowed in respect; (At least that group respected my beliefs and understood that I didn't need or want another faith). I finally gave up AA, because my drinking got far worse.

The above paragraph would not last 5 minutes, if that long, on SR and I despise them for that. But I won't go back and be squelched again. Others can try, but obviously they have more tolerance for intolerance. Thank God I found sobriety here through medication for the medical problem of addiction.

Bob

My gripe is with the rehab industry. They take anywhere from $10,000 to $50,000 from desperate souls for a thirty-day stay. Some of these (e.g. Enterhealth) claim to include "state of the art" drugs in their approach. This sometimes includes includes Vivitrol (long-acting injection of naltrexone) combined with abstinence. What a sad joke. One rehab stay often leads to repeated stays.

To see the Mulligan Group boast that it basically has 130,000 hot prospects per month for a rehab stay made me nauseous.

We are a real threat to a billion-dollar behemoth. Grrr.

Anyone (Lo0p??) care to register soberelapsery.com? It would get plenty of curiosity hits.

All this said, I have genuine respect for anyone who finds what they seek in AA. "As they say, Live and let live."

BTW, they also like to ask, "How's THAT working for you?"

The site is definitly a great marketing tool. I used forums in the past for prospecting and they work fairly well. But to prey on desperate people is sick. No wonder the mods shut the TSM discussions down quick. I love how they banned your post Loop and constantly mention no medical advice...but they have a section...forgot exact name about physc disorders and such and then mention of drugs etc run rampet. In the alcoholism section I guess a paperback and a generic drug might ruin a "lead".

I also loved how in one the earlier posts/arguments on TSM the members were saying how this site is selling something...LOL I am suprised no one threw up the Mulligan groups site.

I post there with the premise of letting people know there are other options. I have a thick skin and just blow off the snide comments...LOL noticed one of their members who was chastizing the living hell out TSM and shouting AA of the mountain top just went out drinking is back with his tail between his legs...not happy the guy is still going thru hell...but man he needs to open his mind

Great job Evan.

This issue -- the multibillion dollar empire doing everything it can to hold onto its turf in the name of profit and effectively killing people in the process -- is just going to get bigger and bigger. I'm ready for the fight.

Yes, excellent work.

So far I have not gone to any other sites because I know if I do, my sparring would be endless. I admire your energy.

PS

A small point. Recoverers with abstinence are not just "in the minority" they are in a "very small" or "tiny" minority.

Lo0p -- I thought they banned you over there. Did they take you back? Hit 'em hard before they kick you out again.
