This blows my mind, this and Qs experience.

I havent gotten a prescription for anything in a long time. And Im pretty sure everyone signs some sort of privacy policy with any doctor. I dont recall signing anything at the pharmacists. So it must be from the pharmacy. Or it could be the insurance company that pays for the drug, they see the name, and put it in their data base. Maybe you can review the privacy policy from your insuance company. I wonder if you didnt use insurance, would anyone really see your past prescription purchases?

Review the privacy policies of your doc, your pharmacist and your insurance company, there has to be a violation somewhere. Might as well post your SS# here too while your at it.

What gets me is, is there somthing the pops up red flags? Certain key drug names?

Do you have a right to demand where they got thier information? After all they are accusing you of potentially NOT being safe behind the wheel of a car.

Must be part of that Patriot Act they rushed through, that ripping sound was the constitution.

This blows my mind. :x

Or perhaps it's health care reform.

Remember in my case, it is the government of the State of Florida that is making me prove that I am safe to drive a vehicle, for some reason. I suspect it's a due-diligence form after they noticed something and their bureaucracy makes them send out the generic form letter. I wouldn't be surprised if I am forced by that same bureaucracy to attend AA in the next letter, even though I'm AF and have never had any arrests.

BTW, my insurance company has given me no problems, whatsoever.

Bob

Yes, the government is causing you a headache Bob, in this example, although it's primarily due to the private insurance companies' reporting system designed to limit risks and maximize profit. But/for this reporting system, I do not believe the state of Florida would have any knowledge of your medication. Moreover, it is the private insurance companies that have discriminated against me because of my "pre-existing condition", i.e., mere "discussions of alcohol treatment" that cause me to pay outrageous monthly sums for my individual health insurance. It is also the private insurance companies who seek to limit medical services in the name of higher profits. Fewer mammograms = higher profits, for example, as well as more claims denied = higher profits. As long as there is a profit motive for health care providers, there is an inherent conflict of interest between the provider's primary goal (profits) and the quality of the treatment they give their patients, IMO.

I've been thinking about this a lot and it's really disturbing to me. Scares me. Obviously, who knows what may come up to haunt us. Even if I claim I am trying to take care of my little problem here, some mole could conceivably get into all my records and track wine & liquor purchases...thus my claim I am trying to do something about my drinking problem is moot...yes?!

Has me seriously thinking about it - but will still live on the edge b/c I'm in it now! And even if you buy online, those purchases can conceivably be tracked. Everything you do can be tracked - unless your life is 100% cash. Are we doomed??

ehhhhhh - probably. What's new?!

If TSM using Naltrexone via prescription is the price we pay for getting our life back, it is still worth it. We have saved our own lives and possibly others who may have been killed at some time in the future by our reckless addicted behavior.

Government is not our friend and neither is Big Business. Each looks after their own interests, and both do so under the guise of helping others. We are the one that help ourselves. This very website here is neither funded or created by government or business, but by individuals with a common need.

My letter from the state says they are looking out for my safety and the safety of others. Nice words, but all they're doing is covering their own butts. They care little if nothing that I have cured my malady through no help from them. I'd prefer no help from them, since likely it'll be AA meetings or no license, regardless of my current state of sobriety. Bureaucracy reigns supreme and the individual's desires and needs mean absolutely nothing.

Nick, your point is quite valid about Insurance Companies. They are not charities. They are businesses and are run that way. Minimize risk and maximize profits; not much different from any random person that works for a living. Nevertheless, they're not interested in my well-being as much as they are in me not being in a high risk group that could hurt their profits. They gather this information the best way they can, through prescription drug use reports and databases and what that drug is most likely used for. It doesn't make it right, in fact it is downright wrong, but it is what it is.

Bob

The biggest fear we should have is this proposal for public healthcare. While we may be struggling now to maintain our privacy, it will be 100 times worse with public healthcare. How can you challenge the government if you think they are invading your privacy? You don't.

Very scarey
