Evan, can you help me with this? Which studies directly test TSM as a theory, as in, which studies involve subjects who were specifically told, "take naltrexone one hour before you drink and then drink as you normally would"?
There aren't many. The best are the Finnish ones.
I have found like 3 so far I think (studies using the "targeted" protocol, independent of the research done in Finland by Sinclair and others). I'm dropping them in a directory for you and I'll send them you're way when I think I've got them all. One of them involves 21 patients. It was successful, and the results were significant, but come on...21 subjects?
There are many in which the targeted protocol was not employed but for which the results implicate that it should be. There are also a few in which the targeted protocol was not employed but the researchers directly concluded that extinction was the mechanism of action.
I am going to look into the clinics (eg the one in Florida) to see if they keep some kind of statistics, when I get a chance, as I think this might be a good place to find some more info. As it stands though, nothing holds as much power as the DBPC's done in Finland.
edit: Actually none of them use the targeted protocol, and the instructions to "drink as you normally would." The ones that I've found that use the targeted protocol tell them to take the Naltrexone in a high risk situation.
Again the clinical stats that may exist, although not scientifically controlled, are where you'd find more results of TSM actually being employed. I'll look for 'em...the idea came to me yesterday after reading your question.
