Ruthy said: Being AF might be scarey for him at this point in time, but it may be more tangible as he gets closer to it. My original goal was to get to a healthy drinking level but as I've gotten ever closer to that, the thought of not drinking doesn't scare me half as much as it did in the beginning. Subtle changes take place over time and as I've seen success it's made more success possible.

I feel the same way. At first, the idea of never drinking again was too challenging to contemplate. I thought of all the (pre-TSM) times I craved a drink and the pain / difficulty I had in abstaining. When starting TSM, the idea of going totally AF was not in my mind. Who could do that!!? But now, it is actually on my mind and as a viable way of life. Breaking the nexus between craving and fear has been a paramount benefit of TSM for me.

Just to update...

My husband became frustrated with his lack of ability to moderate using TSM and decided to go completely AF starting on Feb. 13. He is using philosophy from "The Easy Way to Stop Drinking" by Allen Carr that he had used previously during his longest sober period. He is also taking Baclofen to help with his cravings.

I am hoping that with the bac, and also with the progress he made while taking the naltrexone to decrease his addiction, he will be able to remain alcohol free indefinitely.

I do believe that the Naltrexone and TSM helped him, even if his habits prevented him from being able to successfully moderate.

It has been a wonderful 12 days of sobriety for our family :D

Thumbs up!

Carr is really helpful to some. For a few, that's all they need. Good for him for finding a philosophy that works.

I've heard that Alcohol Lied to Me is similar, if he wants any reinforcement.
