I just think it's all part of the TSm process and unless we go AF there'll always be the odd spike.

I'm not so certain of that. I was drinking on occasion before I fell off the TSM wagon and didn't get drunk at all during this time. I really think we might be onto something with the bad NAL. The NAL I was taking during the time that I really backslide was Nodict I bought from a person on here who had a bunch but didn't need/want it any longer.

Thinking back, I never did get the same side-effects with Nodict that I used to get form the Nal I'd gotten on prescription through my Dr. The prescription NAL used to always make me tired in the evenings. Not so with the Nodict. At the time, I thought I'd just gotten over that side effect. Perhaps the real problem was with the Nodict.

This makes me wonder about others who have either failed at TSM or otherwise given up. This is a topic worth exploring more.

I'm using Nalorex prescribed by my GP (personal Dr via the national health service) and have done even when I was getting it from the private physician I consulted for a while (in person not an internet pharmacy). I have occasionally used online pharmacy bought stuff but not recently.

It is a little different for you folks in other countries. Getting NAL from a GP here in the US means you have alcohol treatment on your medical record. Once this happens, you will likely never be able to get life insurance and you will be otherwise "branded."

I speak from experience.

Best bet it to get it from the internet, but it looks like this bit me is the butt because it appears I ended up with some bad NAL.

Hi guys, hope you don't mind a newbie question- I am going through my primary care doc's script/pharmacy in person. Is there any chance that a regular non-Internet pharmacy will give me sub-standard Nal, like you're suspecting Internet pharmacies might? Or do you think I'm covered, from a medication-quality perspective?

I'm just nervous starting out, and wanting to look at all the angles as much as possible.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
Travis

Think you should be ok with a high st pharmancy. I have to buy my Nal online and worry about this a lot but I've found that Goldpharma sell the Bristol-Myers Squibb "Nalorex" that you get scripted here in the UK so that put my mind at ease.

More than half our populace want a US style private system  , and many already think telling your Dr about certain things may stop them from securing employment if they have to undergo medical clearance for a job. Alcoholism was all over my notes already, so I didn't care. I've also paid for private treatment out of my own pocket because the NHS isn't always that responsive/limited in what it can offer, and I know I'd not get private insurance here either - some people in the UK do use their private insurer to pay for stints in rehab if they develop it whilst already covered, but they only get one chance at it.

At least we have fall back here.

I'd be more than happy to pay for my script but my GP isn't very "open minded" like some. Naltrexone seems to be a fairly expensive drug at I think around £1 a tablet compared to the likes of Diazepam which is about 10p for 10mg.

Like yourself my record is already littered with all kinds of alcohol/drug abuse and to be honest I can't ever see myself going private unless I dramatically turn my life around. But, I could see why some would be hesitant about going on record with their problems.

I was lucky enough to get my first supply of Nal from someone I knew who had an Opiate problem. Not the way to go I know, but he didn't use them (like most people prescripted them for this) and he had no use for them. Like posted above, I now use Goldpharma but wouldn't hesitate to get my own script.

I didn't get my private prescription from my GP, instead I saw a private consultant he prescribed for me, then off the back of my success my GP started prescribing & on the NHS. The private consult didn't cost me very much in real terms. GP saw how much it improved my life and the £1 per tablet is well worth it, at the moment I probably only take it once a week, have probably only used 30 since the start of the year. At my worst when I first started it was 5 times a week. Don't know how many cheap sedatives someone would take in that time? I definitely saved myself the £1 a day private prescription because doing TSM meant I could work every day, whereas pre TSM I'd have days off if I was drinking, I'm also no longer drinking myself to death and not suffering any of the ill effects, accidents etc I used to.

Q - You might be on to something, indeed. I took Nodict for about 14 months, which only kept me at a steady bottle of wine a day. Then, I ran out and wasn't able to get it quickly so a member on this board sent to me 50 mg. of Revia (brand name Naltrexone), which I took for about two months. After two months of using Revia I finally started AF and now have declared myself cured. This is all quite interesting. I still take the Revia if I have a glass of wine when out to dinner and I've been doing great. Now, I rarely drink. I too now wonder if it was actually the Revia that finally tipped the balance for me. While taking the Nodict/Naltrexone from River Pharmacy I didn't see much change in my consumption for months and months.

Good luck on your new path to "regained cured." :D
