Right you are, Elfern. Eskapa warns that the early reduced craving is "beneficial but weak," p. 117, and not extinction at work. True pharmacological extinction -- restoring our neural pathways to their pre-addicted state -- takes around four months or longer. P. 118.

I think the difference is 'extinction' vs. 'remission.' While abstinence may result in periods of remission. . .the disease is still active, in hiding, and waiting to pounce. With extinction, you've put that beast in its grave.

I'm glad you did ask about it, Canadian! For a method so simple to practice, there is a boatload of information on the science behind the method. Most of us doing TSM have read and re-read Eskapa's book and we learn something new every time. If you go to the board index you will find chapters from the book you can download if you haven't read it yet. Also, there is a real gold mine of faq's by Eskapa that I have trouble finding on the index. Here's a link:
