Thanks guys. The liver test thing didn't make sense to me, but if cirrhosis can sort of fly under the radar then that makes more sense. He's been drinking hard for years and years, but it just got worse the last 2 years or so.

They are discharging him today. He still has the shakes a bit but it's much more mild. When I checked on him this morning he was looking and acting more clearheaded and himself than I've seen him in a long time. He is still just as yellow as a banana, but they say the coloring will fade in 8 weeks or so. They also told him about a Buddhist sobriety program, which he will probably be more into than AA.

I honestly don't think it will be nearly as hard for him to be abstinent because of the nal. Back when he started TSM he would drink anything, and he was just insatiable. Right before this little hospital jaunt, he had grown completely disinterested in beer, wine, and every hard liquor except for COLD Sobieski vodka. And he didn't want to go out and drink in bars or anywhere in public anymore. Really all that was left to kick was drinking little half-shots of Sobieski at home. Without TSM I really wouldn't have had any hope that he could quit for more than a week. We shall see I guess.

Big hugs and much love to everyone on this forum!!!

OK, an update after BF has had 3 straight weeks of AF.

So far staying dry seems to be coming really easy to him. He says that as long as I don't drink around him or ever smell of booze, he doesn't forsee a problem. We went to a street fair where everyone was drinking and partying over the weekend, and he had no desire to join in. Then a few days ago we went to Blackhawk and gambled a bit, wandering in and out of casinos/bars. He said there was a moment when it felt natural to sit at the bar and start in, but it only lasted a moment. So hopefully it continues to be easy for him. His body certainly can't take it if he decides to start in with the everyday drinking again, and after all this I don't think I can take it either. But so far so good.

We've done more fun stuff together in the past 3 weeks than we have in probably the last year. Funny how easy it is to get out of the house and socialize when you're not passed out or incoherent most of the time, huh? :P He's starting to loose the booze gut in a big way and all the jaundice is almost gone - there is just a very slight yellow tint lingering in his eyes.

Thankfully since he is unemployed he qualified for a government medical program for the hospital bills. Without that, his stay would have rung in at over $100k!!! :o

My only worry now is that he's acting a bit weird and standoffish. I know that he's just trying to think to himself and learn how to do things without drinking all the time. It does make me wonder though if he is still into being with me in the cold, sober light of day. :( I guess time will tell.
