Hi all. I'm pleased to say I'm 5 months in and only drinking 1 or 2 days a week.....and only have a glass or 2 of wine.

I'm starting to panic though....I'm off to Dubai on Holiday end of May and obviously I need to take my Nal with me. Im scared if I get caught with Nal there could be serious consequences....would sniffer dogs sniff it out as opium ??.. Ccor am I being stupid ???xxx

No you are not being stupid.

I have some experience here. I travelled through Dubai a few years ago when I was using Nal + TSM.

Right Naltrexone is on the banned substance/banned medication list in Dubai. If caught you can be arrested.

Ok there'll be tales of people 'getting through' Dubai with various meds etc, because they won't know you've got it unless you tell them. However if for some random reason you are stopped and searched - then I understand you have very little chance, and Dubai jails are not very nice.

How are you obtaining your Nal?

I was lucky enough to be getting it prescribed by a Dr in the UK, the Dr wrote me a letter explaining that I take Nal for help with an alcohol problem. I also was advised to travel with the original presciption, and box with dispensing label on it. The Dr did also explain to me that the letter wasn't guaranteed to keep me safe, but it was likely to help.

I was only passing through the airport, but didn't want to risk anything scary.

If you aren't able to obtain a Drs letter, then consider abstaining and not taking the Nal with you, or just take the risk.

I think you know the answer, Hope, and this will be the perfect opportunity to reap the benefits of your TSM regime. If you can go AF for 5 days you can go 7. It will be very easy. Have a sparkling grape juice or a delicious iced tea. You will enjoy your vacation and not worry about breaking the local laws and the very serious consequences that could occur.

Yes, you see I was going at New Year and it was my last chance before going back into serious diet and training, most of which would have to be AF.

So I guess I'd ask why will be it scary, how would it be to just have a soft drink?

New Years eve on that trip, which was my last drinking holiday, I didn't even finish the glass and went to bed at 10pm, slept right through and couldn't be bothered going to watch the Singapore fireworks!!

Hope,

My heart goes out to you for this would be hard.

How absurd that a medicine is banned. I do not understand the reason behind that, and to ban drugs for colds and cough it doesn't make sense.

I did find this by doing a google search and naltrexone is a class b drug:

Controlled Drugs Class B – Controlled medicines
Possession of these drugs must be accompanied by a prescription. Many of these drugs are available over-the-counter in other countries and travellers to or through UAE should ensure they obtain a prescription before carrying any of these drugs to that country.
They include many common cold and cough remedies

From the General Authority for Health Services Guide to the Management of Controlled Drugs in the Private Sector, March 2007

https://www.fairtrials.org/press/list-o ... es-in-uae/

I do not know what to suggest since you are doing this without a script from a doctor.

I agree that it would be difficult for me to be on a holiday and not want a drink. Being the risk taker that I am I would most likely bring it with me (yes a true drunk) in hopes that they would be more focused on security with these crazy bombers than the drugs you might have in a suitcase; however, they may be more focused on everything coming into the country because of these recent bombing.

Kiwi drugs does have doctors on line and will write a script for you (for legal reasons). I do know that they claim the nal is coming from their supplier from the UK and the online service is through its UK affiliate. Maybe email/call them to see if it will come with a prescription to pass through Dubai (just a suggestion). https://www.kiwidrug.com/regulation/ They do have mixed reviews.

Good luck and if you do decide to be AF good luck,

Jaba

thanks chic...I have just under 10 weeks and I'm dieting and training now. I'm drinking as little as possible due to my trying to lose weight and get fitter so I may even become AF before I go !!

Xx

Hi Jaba ...sorry chic , crossed posts !! I'll see how I get on over the next few weeks. I suppose I could even go to my own GP and ask.

I'm so pleased with the way it's going I don't want to stop now !!xxx

Hope,

I think you will be able to do anything once you put your mind to it.

After you have been AF for a couple of weeks the thought of having a cloudy mind and body might lose it appeal just for one or two glasses of wine/beer or alcohol.

I understand where you are coming from, for it is more about not having the nal just in case. It would be like leaving your security blanket at home.

Trust in yourself, and tell everyone that is around you whats up if your plan is AF.

Have lots of fun,

Jaba
