Astute readers will know that I have previously reference the book Drinking: A Love Story by Caroline Knapp. Nothing about NAL, but a beautifully written memoir of a highly functional alcoholic. Because she was a writer by profession, it's much better than anything similar I have ever read. It chronicles her life from beginning to completion of a 12-step program. The Amazon reviews will say more than I can.
Readers will also note that, prior to learning about TSM, I had a huge fear that if I were ever to enter into 12-step hell, and all the deprivation and struggle that this would entail, that no sooner had a spent time in said hell, -that I was sure to be hit by a bus or die of some fatal disease. Making it all for nothing.
Well. This morning I looked up the book on Amazon for the 1st time in many years, only to discover that Ms. Knapp died of lung cancer at the age of 42....
How incredibly sad this makes me feel.
At any rate, -a wonderful read and highly recommended.
