I'm all in favour of our "self-medication" with naltrexone, and for some, baclofen, however, I implore you all to reacquaint yourselves of the dangers.

On another site (many of you know about this) a very troubled woman has overdosed on several drugs including taking 500 mgs (?) of baclofen. I'm repeating this from a woman who knows the poor woman so afflicted and publicized the details. Of course accidents happen, and despair happens, and overdose can be the result.

For heaven's sake please remember the drugs we are taking are real. This is not a game. Many of us are not under our doctor's guidance because they are woefully ignorant of many things in the treatment of alcoholism. Most of us are anxious for results, and quick ones. We've all suffered for years with this cross on our backs. But that said, we do need to be aware of dangers.

Please think about this. I would never have brought this up and violated this woman's privacy if it had not been made public on MWO. Please keep her in your prayers - and take heed.

I also heard about it on MWO and you're right we should take heed and be careful, sometimes desperate people do desperate things.

My prayers are with her.

Thanks BGH for starting this thread. I have repeatedly posted that baclofen mixed with alcohol worries me.

From what I've seen, it's not clear how much Cowgal (on MWO) took; it could have been accidental. She was on other meds and I recall her mentioning several times in posts that she had a cold or something a few days ago, so maybe she took an OTC remedy as well. My prayers are with her. She was not expected to make it, but is doing much better, but they don't know her long-term prognosis.

There was another, definitely accidental overdose a few days ago that resulted in a new baclofen user also in intensive care, intubated. Here's his story:

People, we have a special responsibility to ourselves to be extra-cautious if we are using meds without medical supervision.

I ADD MY VOICE TO BGH: PLEASE TAKE HEED!!!

This has been removed from MWO but is still in Google cache

"took 500mg Baclofen, Clonopin, and sleeping meds with alcohol"

Drunkie: What's your point????

A woman nearly lost her life due to a polypharm overdose that included baclofen. Another baclofen user ended up intubated after a polypharm overdose that he self-reports as accidental. MWO posts refer to a third baclofen incident but I can't find it.

This isn't about getting the gossip right. We care very much about those who post (or just lurk) here and all would be well-advised to be very careful and take all precautions and TAKE RESPONSIBILITY if we choose to medicate outside of medical supervision.

We need to take care of ourselves; we need to take care of one another.

Easy Lena, I simply quoted what I read, and did not intend to judge, advise or offend anybody. Next time I'll be careful replying to you. Regards.

Cowgal -- Maryann -- is having a truly miraculous recovery. Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

What happened? I don't want to navigate thru MWO to find out - am concerned about what happened to Cowgirl (I have read her posts over there) and hope she is ok - but wondering what exactly happened w/ her. What was she taking, etc. ??

Is there a lesson to be learned here about use of BAC? Now I'm scared - any advice would be welcome.

Hello TSM friends,

I just saw this post and read Houtx's question and felt I needed to respond.

I recommend highly using a doctor to take any of these meds, Nal, Bac, Topa, Antabuse, whatever.

The two stories, MA's and AndyR's where they overdid it for whatever the reason can happen with just about anything we swallow. I recall reading about an alcoholic wife that finally killed herself with an overdose of Benadryl.

Unfortunately, our drug of choice incapacitates us to the point of not being able to think clearly, if at all. In my case, when I do drink, I drink to blackout. All bets are off then, and who knows what will happen if I find some pills in that state?

Remember, 40% of us die from the disease of alcoholism. And that is only the 40% they know about.

Keep on trucking. I am very impressed with the high percentage of cure from Naltrexone, very.

As far as Baclofen. Follow a very slow titration rate, use common sense, and don't drink to blackout while taking them.

Cindi
