Or at least not work as quickly. What springs to mind is that even the success rates look at a window of time, 3 months, 6 months, etc. Some people get good results, but it takes longer than a year, Maggie being one such person.

My drinking before TSM was about 1 bottle of wine per night, less if I worked the next day and more on some weekends. Nobody ever says in the family but I am sure my grandfather and an Uncle were alcoholics. My sister could have been an alcoholic too but she passed away a few years ago.
I have noticed that there is not a super need to drink right away as I know I have to wait that hour.
I totally disagree with Guapo, just read on the Cured list and also my own conversations with people that TSM has worked for that it is as close to a magic pill as it can get!
I am determined and believe TSM will work for anyone with some being quick responders and others may take 1,2 or maybe even 3 years so I will keep to The Golden Rule!
Nal On! :D :D :D

OK. I'll try again.

It's clear that for most people naltrexone works by perverting or dulling the high or buzz alcohol creates

Drink more than a few, and that's out the window.

TSM worked for me because I slowed down, didn't drink too much, and life impoved. I know that to be true, because for a period after I started TSM I thought it was a magic pill, and went back to drinking as usual.

Result : back to where I was before TSM.

Then I paid attention to my drink counts; made plans to limit drinks for an evening to two or three, not drink on certain days, all the mindful things you hear of.

With that , TSM worked great, but what made the difference was not being drunk all the time, and being able to think clearly

My contention is that if you maintain a state of constant inebriation, that is your normal, your comfort zone, and your body and mind will do everything possible to maintain that

Since the goal for the new normal is to not be inebriated regularly, become a limited or occasional drinker. That's a good new normal.

Sounds like you spend your winters in a place where drinking a lot is the normal, that would make TSM tough.

agree with Guapo, what made a difference for me was not being drunk all the time. going to events and being sober and enjoying it.

Okay - I think I am different again to most of you. I have a long history of alcoholics in my family - both dads' and mums' side ....... and although I never hit bottom, I was a daily drinker for many years. I did not do hangovers so always stopped my drinking before getting to the point of being really drunk - obviously now and then I overdid but for the most part, drank around 4 Guinness daily. Only drank 2 daily for many years initially, but could not stop. When I started nal, my intake had gone up to 5-6 most nights (still no hangover though!) and after starting the nal, it went down, eventually settling in at more or less 4 a night again! I found it really hard to have AF days - but kept on as to me there was no alternative. The Nal did suddenly 'work' for me and overnight I did not want to drink. But was drinking pretty much 3-4 daily until then. Cheeto - it is sounding hopeful re your taking the 100 mg and I am so pleased that you are not giving up. Yes, it can take longer than 1 or even 2 years for some. I have no idea why it works for some, or how it works for some and not others - Badger is a great example as he is still waiting for it to work for him - and others that started around the same time as me have not had the same success as me, although have noticed vast improvement in their drinking. I think for whatever reasons it might take longer, or not as well, one has to just keep plodding on with the Nal - eventually for most folk, it does work. Hang in there Cheeto .....

HUGS, Maggie

Hi everyone, I went AF yesterday and plan to go AF for awhile to clear my head and feel better. It was a bit uncomfortable at the 5PM mark but after eating it was fine so may just eat dinner earlier to get over the 5'O clock syndrome!
Nal ON!

Yeah, the 5pm "post time" was a regular for me too, Cheeto. I was totally happy to feed that grumbling stomach some nice cheap beer (for the next 6 hours or so). Then bedtime approached and it became difficult to navigate without a hand on the wall. THEN I would take a couple of ibuprofen, eat and go to bed about an hour later in a nice hypoglycemic crash. I'd be sound asleep inside of 15 minutes.

Well, I'm eating a lot earlier these days...

Aw man... I've gotten into the Haggen Dazs ice cream bar trap. Avoid the Dark Chocolate Pomegranate if you know what's good for you.

Cheeto:

I haven't seen your posts in awhile as I haven't checked in, but it looks to me like you are doing really really well. I rarely heard you talk about AF time before, and now you are doing it!! Yay for you!!
