Hi there,
I started April 12 and have been following the golden rule. I am only taking 25mg because of SEs and will go higher if they ever get to tolerable. Most have faded except maybe intestinal uncomfort. The one that I find hard now is that if I drink 3 or more glasses of wine I am waking up 5-10 per night with hot flashes. I am a 54 year old woman and have already been there done that with hot flashes. It is unpleasant and really disrupts my sleep. I know it is easy to say, " just don't drink more than 2 glasses". But I think you all can sympathize that I am early in this journey and self control isn't my strength yet. Has anyone else had this issue? Does it go away? Is it another early SE?
Thanks,
Susie

Hello quitwhining. I am also new here and haven't even started TSM yet, but my tablets are on the way from Turkey (Im in the UK) and I cant wait to get started.
I am 56 and actually sailed through the menopause with very few symptoms. But, I am a binger and when I stop I have had these hot flashes on many nights, throughout the night.
Sorry I cant offer you anything else but Im sure someone will be along soon who can.
Good luck

I haven't heard a lot about this, Q. Maybe try using the search function towards the upper right to see what others have reported?

Thanks bobbino for the good wishes. and Joe, I will try your advice. I actually am forcing myself to take a AF day today because I need a good night sleep tonight. I am hoping this is another symptom that will pass.

Ok, Q. Let us know how you fare!

Btw, forcing AF while you're craving may cause a spike due to ADE, so be forewarned.

Joe,
I know I saw somewhere on this site a list of what all the acronyms mean. But I can't seem to find it now. What is "ADE"?
I thought I read somewhere that after you have been on this program a few weeks you should try and add in a AF day once a week.
I did have a pretty foggy brain that first couple of weeks, so I may need to go back and re-read the book and website info.
Thanks.

PS. Right after I posted the above I found that link. Alcohol Deprivation Effect. I am going to go read up.

Hi there - I had been there and done that re the hot flashes too - but as I got older, I found that drinking more than a couple would cause hot flashes in the night - even pre nal. So, it might not be the Nal but purely an age thing. I still get the odd one or two now - and have not even taken a nal in months as I am not drinking.

ADE is Alcohol Deprivation Effect - basically if you stop drinking for any period of time then start again, you tend to drink more - if you Google it, it explains it in more depth. Repeated deprivation cycles increase the cravings - so it is not good to keep stopping and starting - hence it not being good to force AF (Alcohol Free) days. They will come naturally eventually! Maybe once you are a few months in, it might be a good idea to try for the odd one now and again .....

Are you taking the nal on an empty tummy? That might be causing the intestinal discomfort ..... try taking it with food in your tum!

Hugs, maggie

None since Jan '16 I feel that I can safely say that I am cured!
