I am all for keeping things open -its just that this board in a matter of a couple of months has gotten so spread out. I get on everyday and want to keep up but it takes me several hours to follow the different threads. I don't know if that's typical of any other board out there, probably so...but much as I want to be an active member, I run out of time and concentration.

I find it useful to select the "Notify me when a reply is posted" option right below the area where you type your forum posts and right above the "Submit" button. This will tell the forum software to send you an email when someone replies to a thread you've participated in. The email even includes a link to the specific forum thread.

This option helps me to keep up on conversations I've previously participated in.

I get upset again just typing that. I am a former/semi-hippie from the 70s and very open-minded, but the guy has a picture of his long-haired self (is it real??) with a bird on his head!! I have a hard time w/ his credibility right there. Don't get me started again -

Welcome to Social Networks. :) Who knows if it's real or not. Mine isn't. I think the only one of us here posting our real picture is SR.

Krazy Kris and Ocean are also real! I would like to put a real one up for members, but not so keen if someone I know from my business or something comes strolling along!

I did also wonder if putting our progress in our signatures was being helpful for those with slower progress, but seeing as the majority seem to be in favour of it, mine will stay.

I am all for anyone posting their opinions, but I do feel we must remember the primary reason this group was set up was for those of us practising the method, to support each other and compare notes. I think we are going to come under attack from folk with our interests much less in mind than Robert has, and we will find out that Robert is actually on our side, although he may have made a comment or two that made us wonder about that.

Anyway, I hope it is all water under the bridge now, and that we can continue with the task to hand- beating our own addictions, and hopefully when that begins to happen, getting the word out to fellow sufferers.

Q, I loved the tact filter link - put it on my bookmarks.

I always say that certain people just don't have good sh*t filters. . .now I know there are two kinds of those!

houtx -- Imagine what an undertaking it was to catch up on a month of posts!! I always just hit the "view active topics" button and if you are signed in, there is a little yellow icon indicating unread posts. We certainly have grown.

I think the issue of posting is well settled. I'm glad so many spoke up to say they find it helpful. I suppose we must repeat, repeat, repeat to one another, when we get discouraged, that we are in it for the long haul.

Q -- I loved the tact filter too.

Take care all -- Lena

When threads wither away , or indeed after a certain length of time would it be possible to put them into an archive section , down the bottom of the board index ?

I agree that we should continue posting the details of our journey, but maybe 'Progress' isn't the correct name? It's really about our 'Experience', which may or may not include real progress..

About the discouragement any late bloomers might feel, it think it would be tremendously helpul to put a HUGE (red, bold, etc.) disclaimer somewhere in the Sinclair Method info that explains how each person's results wil be unique, and comparing one's own experience to that of others is NOT a good idea. I'm not sure what wording would be best, but something that downplays the importance of a concrete timeline.

I have no problem with some of the argumentative posts being removed (and I promise to be good from now on), but I don't have a strong opinion either way. About my picture being real...now you've got me scared! I sometimes for get that ANYBODY can stop by and drop in on us. Now that I think of it, I should have chose a more obscure name as well. I'll have to think about that some more.

As far as following the threads, I rely on the 'View now posts' option (as well as the e-mail notifications). Bottom line for me is I'll do whatever I have to so I can keep up, since this is kind of like a lifeline for me. :D

In answer to the question, yes, that's really me in the picture. The bird is a sparrow that I saved from under a car tire in a parking garage when it was a nestling. I raised it to maturity and released him into the wild. My children named him "Little Porkchop" after a character in a cartoon they watch. If you want a better picture of me, you can visit the bios page on Int Ice:

http://www.intellectualicebergs.org/about.php

And, yes, you should avoid taking the guy with the bird on his head too seriously.

To give my perspective on Lena's question about posting progress, I see it as nothing but beneficial. As we've noticed, many people have drinking spikes a week or two into the process. This seems like backsliding, but my personal guess is that the drinkers are subconsciously trying to compensate for the endorphins that they aren't getting any more. It's extremely useful for people who hit that drinking spike to see how common it is, and that it does lead to improvement later.

That is very likely to be a reason we go up during the first few weeks, and I also think we then 'give ourselves permission' to drink.

For so long most of us have been fighting a losing battle on a daily basis, "Will I have one or won't I?" (Inevitably we do) and all of a sudden we find we no longer have to fight it.

When you have been doing this for years (decades?) as I have it is very liberating moment, and there in the background is also the "Well, I have to drink to get better" argument.

As the nal hasn't had a chance to do it's stuff at that stage, I guess these are all reasons that contribute to drinking going up.

Even when you know it is likely to happen, it is disappointing!

Robert - you get my "WOW!! What a good sport award!! " here. I am so delighted you are still with us and taken all the criticisms and the ribbing about the bird in good humor.

I find it very refreshing/honorable/impressive/and everything else positive that, again, you are still with us, have taken everything in stride and are just keepin' on.

You are a good man. Thanks!
