Hi all,

Well my boyfriend is on week 9 right now. He's still not worked up to a full dose of nal, and he is still drinking a lot. However, I am noticing little things that just would not have been possible before:

-He went to a football game with his buddy (a major drinker himself), and had ONE beer. Usually he'd be chugging them like they were going out of style.
-The next week he went to the game and couldn't even finish one beer. His friend drank most of it for him! And he never even touched the little flask he took in with him.
-He watched an entire football game on tv with his dad, and drank NOTHING. I'd bet it's the first time that's happened since he was 12!
-Last weekend we went to a bar to get something to eat. Normally we would each do a shot or two and order beers. I mentioned that I might want something to drink. He actually said, "You're ordering a DRINK? Ugh gross." We ordered food and left a bar without consuming one single drink! That's never happened since I've known the guy.

The best thing is that his old personality is coming back. There are plenty of days when he feels like crap, but we are making plans, hanging out together, going places together, having great sex...I can see the guy I love so much returning. It's wonderful.

Hang in there everyone, and don't forget to look for the small successes beyond your weekly numbers!

I am very happy that he has your support. It is very important. My wife has made some similar comments about me, getting the old me back. It is true.
Remember to not be discouraged if drinking spikes. It is a process that takes some time.
Give my regards to your boyfriend and let him know we are all rooting for him.

Incredible news nmarie! To think that you persevered so strongly through all the difficulties at the beginning, but it's all been worth it so far, wonderful!

Just a little update. BF has worked up to taking 25 mg of nal every day, all at once. I don't think it has such a strong effect on him any more, but it does make him really tired for a while. I think we're going to give it another week or so at 25 mg per day, and then try to inch it up bit by bit for a goal of 50 mg.

Thank you so much for this community!!! You are all a wonderful help and this forum is a great resource for information and support.
