Ok..this is the end of the 6th month taking Nal - 100mgs before drinking. I have cycled in and out of the different types of alcohol. Beer, Vodka, etc. Now I no longer desire beer (which used to be my favorite) and can drink a few and stop. Although, now I have turned into a whino. I know that I will have to go through this too but I need some encouragement as I thought I would be over wine by now - it has been over a month. Beer took be almost 3 months to conquer but its hard to remember when you wake up with a hangover and my wine consumption keeps increasing. Just wanted to know if anybody has been here and is anyone further out than I am and still struggling?

I don't think this will help much but I did drink for many years and never really drank wine. Let's say from the late 60's til 87 I drank a lot of beer and some vodka and maybe another type of alcohol here and there then I stopped drinking. In 2000 I picked up my frist drink again and it was wine. I continued drinking wine and it is totally my choice of poison. I find that wine is a different buzz and much harder to keep under control than the beer or vodka. It may just be the progression of the addiction, don't know but it is curious. I had a weekend of drinking beer, which I don't like anymore and my units were down for the weekend. In other words it seemed that I just did not feel the hold of the addiction on beer, so far! Trying to figure this all out myself.

Hi SG,

Yes, I'll put my hand up. I've just completed week 28 and I've been on 100 mg naltrexone for the last 4 weeks. No discernible changes to date. For more detail (should you want it!), go to viewtopic.php?f=9&t=139&start=210.

All the best.

V.

Your lack of interest in beer is certainly a positive sign. We have already learned on this board that the three to four month period minimum for the cure is way of the mark for many of us here. The book adds that the benefits of extinction can continue for up to three years. Hang in there silly...
