Hello Friends -- A some of you have done, I went down to 25 mg. after my drinking reduced significantly and was limited to just 3 to 4 hours in the evening. My drinking has shot up in recent days, so I am questioning the wisdom of this. I have decided to go back to 50 mg. It could be certain triggers (college football is a huge big deal and it started with that), but I've decided not to chance it. I have carried a second dose of 25 mg. and taken it when it it became apparent I was going to continue to drink, but for now I have decided not to take any chances. I know from some pm's that I am not the only one who has faced this issue.

May we hear from those who have gone down to 25 mg.?

I have had no side effects at either 25 or 50 mgs, so I elected to use 100mgs when I drink. I figure nal is cheap and safe, so why not?

Hello Lena
I was just checking back over my posts and i think that the couple of weeks when i had to reduce to 25mg for fear of running out my drinking trend crept up - i hadn't thought of it but you might be right.

I've been on for a week and I've only used 25 mg because I am a night time drinker. 6-10 units a night. I was told it covers you for 12 hours so as long as I am covered through the night I was told I am cool.

My first week went fine. I had no alcohol yesterday without difficulty. Although my habit wanted me to drink. So I just said,...no craving...no way. Today, I don't know yet but its not killing me but I may try and have a few. See if I can moderate. I was told I will still heal so long as I take Nal...Good luck. Jim

Hi - I thought I posted this already but looks like it didn't go through...may have posted it elsewhere.

I went down to 25 mg a month or so ago and now I believe I am unintentially re-addicted. My levels are near or at what they were pre-sinclair. I am also a bit skeptical of the batch of online medication I am using (it is a new batch and coincides with the re-addiction). So...I have an appointment scheduled with a psychiatrist tomorrow who I pre-screened as someone who will prescribe Nal. I will be paying out of pocket to keep it off my records and I will tell her that I have a slight issue with cravings that Nal has helped me with in the past and that my intentions are to use it to remain abstinent. I will then start with 50 mg and would caution anyone to be very careful about gonig below that dose. I'm not sure if my issue was the dose or the medication, but I intend to switch both to cover my bases. Please do not panic about this if you are using online meds, my first batch did wonders and I do not have any proof that it's the Nal or the decrease in dosage - I just don't want to assume one or the other so I am changing both. I order from River and I don't believe anyone else has had this issue so again, this is just a learning lesson from one user, not a trend. I also just recently quit my job of 17 years to stay home with the kids and that may be factoring in as well...not sure but I want to get back to where I was asap.

Wish me luck tomorrow...

I had been taking 25mg at times, because my drinking was mainly over four to six hours in the evening.

I have also foolishly pushed the timescale on taking Nal and then drinking. The first time I saw my doctor (who knows Drs Eskapa and Sinclair) he told me that I only needed to take Nal half an hour before drinking. The last time I saw him he told me the longer the better, an hour and a half if possible (!!) I have never gone below 30 minutes, but quite often have not fully made the hour.

I now regard both as huge mistakes, and would not recommend risking either to anyone.

<edit> this is just in light of the terrible situation I am in at present. I have no proof that there is a relation, but better safe than sorry, and right now I am just sorry, and in no way safe.

I went down to 25 mg for a few days after recalling Dr. Eskapa responding to a post by Netty citing an article in a peer-reviewed journal.

So I didn't take it lightly. I'm still not convinced my recent troubles are anything more than a spike due to huge triggers but I felt it important to share in an effort to warn others off.
As for the quality issue, H4O and I have discussed this and for me it doesn't explain it. After N101CS had a crisis because he waited too long to re-order, in an abundance of caution I ordered 120 pills. So the same batch that nearly had me cured was the one on which I had my recent spike.

I'm back to fifty and plan to stay there. And I take responsibility for the fact that I took a risk and may have paid a price for it.
