I've lurked here for awhile, and have recently posted a couple times. I've been taking nal for a few months now, also tried some baclofen along with it for awhile. I'm terrible about following rules, so I haven't kept a drinking log, but I know that I'm getting positive results. So, hello everyone...and good luck to all of you!

Hey! :D We'd love to hear about your positive results if you have the time! I'm happy for you!

Welcome Lenore. The drinking log is for your own use to measure progress. The ONLY rule you have to follow for certain is taking the nal one hour before you drink, every time. Good luck and welcome.

Thank you! I lurked for a long time because I was using a combo of bac and nal...I wasn't sure I fit here. Finishing a bottle of wine at night was really too much, and I'm happy to say that I no longer do. I'll just add that it helped me a great deal when I increased Nal to 75 mg over three weeks ago. I'm no expert, but that's my experience. I'm interested to hear if anyone else is taking over 50 mg.

Nice to meet you here Lenore, and it's wonderful that you've been having success already!

There are a couple of discussions right now about taking more than the 'basic' 50mg, so I'm sure folk will be very interested to hear about your experiences:

I'd be interested to know if you've stopped the Baclofen now (it seems like you have?) as it's something I've been considering looking at more myself.

Wishing you continued success on your journey here with us all :)

Hi Lenore!

A warm welcome from me as well.

With reference to your statement above, I'm very interested in what you have said. As 8 has pointed out, there is now a thread dealing specifically with the topic of naltrexone dosage. In that thread, I explain that I'm now in the process of increasing my dose so we shall see what happens.

All the best.

V.

Hi, and thanks for the welcome. Virgil, I think my first post was in your weekly progress thread.
Well, I read both books by Doctor Eskapa and Ameisen, and about three months ago I started taking Naltrexone at 50 mg, along with baclofen. I never had good results titrating up on baclofen because of side effects, although it helped me with anxiety at a lower dose. I stopped and started that medication a couple of times, so I never really gave it a good chance to work. Anyway, I stopped taking baclofen over three weeks ago, and increased my Nal to 100mg. That night I immediately felt a difference from the increased amount of Nal. It was a bit like the "honeymoon period" that I felt when I first started nal at 50 mg. I dropped down to 75 mg and still felt little desire to drink...my wine didn't taste the same to me. I was worried it might be another "honeymoon period" that would fade, but it's been over three weeks, so I'm feeling fairly good about continued success at the higher dose. I haven't had more than two glasses of wine in an evening at the higher nal dose. I am highly motivated to reduce or curtail my wine consumption. I'm a much better and happier person when I don't drink excessively, but aren't we all?! *laugh*
I don't mean to disparage baclofen. I know it works, but it just wasn't the best medication for me.

Hi Lenore -- Welcome. At least one erson here is using l low dose of baclofen and still making TSM progress. We each have to make an informed decision. It's truly a miracle we live in a time when REAL solutions are available.

One obvious difference between baclofen and TSM is that TSM takes a great deal of patience. AT LEAST three months and maybe longer.

One of the blessings of this board is that we will have your back if you find yourself wanting in the patience department.

Hi Lenore! Thanks for posting & welcome. I'm really int'd and encouraged to hear about your success w/ the increased doseage. I'm going to talk to my Dr. about prescribing more pills each month. I assume you split them in half as NAL only comes in 50mg tablets, right?

I'm hoping this may be what I need too. Keep us informed -

Hi Lenore,

I just wanted to welcome you along with the others. It's intersting that you've joined just around the time where others are interested to see if taking more than 50mg of Nal will improve their results. There is so much that we still don't know about this as TSM pioneers. Following your experience will be a great help to those who've decided to alter their dosage. Thanks for joining us, and best of luck on your journey with TSM! :D
