Hi all

I have tried exhaustively to find a Doctor in the UK who would prescribe Naltrexone for alcohol abuse/dependence. I couldn't so ordered some off-shore and am going 'by the book'. My order should arrive within the next few days.

I'm 35 and have become alcohol dependent over the last 8 years after the break down of a relationship. Having said that 3 of my family, my grandfather, aunt and brother have died of excessive alcohol intake related diseases so it's possible there is a genetic factor.

I'm at a stage now whereby I am not physically dependant on alcohol - don't get withdrawal symptoms - but still miss it alot when I'm not drinking. Feel empty and lost without it. However, alcohol is destroying me - in the sense it's destroying my health and the relationships with the people I care about. It's not that I become a dribbling lunatic when I drink but my family/friends have seen me in a bad place in the past when I've had a few too many so it's easy to understand why they avoid me these days when I'm drinking.

I'm living with my parents at the moment and have convinced them the Sinclair method may be helpful to me - they're bright, open minded people and once they listened to a couple of interviews with Dr Sinclair (via Wikipedia) they could at least see it would be worth a chance. I worked the 12 steps for a year but unfortunately that didn't help me but I am going with my heart with this one. It all makes sense to me. It feels right.

I am looking forward to a second chance with the Sinclair method. Of course I understand it's no magic cure but as long as I do exactly as I should (keep the golden rule no matter; chart my drinks) I figure I have as good a chance as them rats. Hope in itself is a wonderul comfort to both me and the people that care about me.

Will keep you posted. Good luck all of you on your personal journeys.

Ashleigh

Can I just add to the above I am in perfect physical health - had a complete physical screening 2 months ago and all readings including LFT tests are in normal range.

Welcome aboard, Ashleigh (cool name). That's great that you have the support of your parents, expecially since you are living with them. You might want to encourage your folks to read the email on this board from Dr. Eskapa to the wife of one of his readers. You''ll find it on the "concerned spouse" topic. You can print it or email it to them. Are they willing to read the book? The more they learn, the better they can get their heads around what you are doing. sounds like they (and you) are off to a great start. Actually that is true for all of us.

Thanks for joining us and please come do back often.

Lena

Welcome Ashliegh,

I, too felt that the Sinclair Method fit and made sense. I love your statement that you figure you had as good of a chance as those rats!

I am only about 11 days in and have ups and downs, but I feel progress (baby steps, but progress!)

The best part of all of this so far is the HOPE that I feel. And, the hope is backed up by proven scientific research. It's not just in my head...

Best,
Vic

Hi Ashl and Welcome!

I was just wondering where you ordered your naltrexone from- was it a European company or does it come from Canada/US?

(Might be helpful for others in the UK/Europe who cannot get it from their GPs).
