I worked up the nerve to ask my doc for an RX and got one. Waiting for it to arrive at the pharmacy. Anxiously looking forward to taking the pill and the next steps toward a more sober me. Worried about the side effects, but as another poster said, it cannot be much worse than a hangover or the other embarrassments my drinking has caused me.

The side effects generally last for a few days to a couple of weeks. The hints and tips has some info on how to minimize them, though some get no side effects at all. Some do get "Nal-overs" which I suspect are hangovers without the cushion of endorphins to make things easier. Hopefully you won't run into this.

Hi Lainiest - good luck with a new option for the new year. I am on day 10 now and I 'think' I am over the worst of the side effects. Still a slight tummy rumble but that is solved with a little food and water. Otherwise, I am doing pretty well - and I am amazed at how differently I feel towards alcohol. But there is no getting past habits. So I am going to have a long haul working on not habitually picking up a drink in a given situation - but at least the 'pull' will hopefully be gone.

We are starting nearly the same time - so let's support each other in getting to the other side of this black hole!
