Hi all -

new to this. Been at it for about 4 weeks. The first 2 weeks were def a honeymoon. Pretty much couldn't drink more than 2 drinks, total loss of craving etc.etc. The last week though I've been a monster. Can't seem to stop until I drink everything in the house. More than I was drinking before. It is really scaring me. I don't want to mess up my life, make any terrible mistakes, windup in jail or in a detox while I try this "method". What if it doesn't work for me? Am I playing with fire??

Welcome...

Are you keeping track of your drinks? How much are you drinking? Did you have a blood / liver test?

I would say to keep with TSM. Always take one hour before drinking. It seems to go up and down for everyone in the beginning.

i haven't on either account. it seemed to work like magic for 3 weeks -- i wanted no more than 2 drinks at a time, was sickened by the thought of more. And last week I had 10-12 drinks in one sitting, on two occasions. Such a drastic uptick - and I'm a small female - that it scared me. I felt like I was back at dangerous drinking levels - texting people I shouldn't have. Making no sense. Being incoherent. Very ashamed. Terrible, debilitating hangovers. I started to get the "is this worth its"?

Are you a daily drinker or do you binge?

People most often have a honeymoon period, followed by a big rise, it generally drops off from there. Do keep track of your drinks, it's an important tool and it's going to help you see your progress. If your progesterone levels are low, you may need to take another 25mg as a booster, but otherwise expect that TSM will be up and down, but down on the whole. There's a log/graph tool you can grab from here, it's at the end of the first post:

Glad you came to join us, sarafa! Keep posting, let us know how you're doing. Plenty of people here to give you a hand along the way.

It sounds like you had a very clear confirmation from the Naltrexone, but hang on for the ride and know that there's often a pop back up when your numbers hit a new low. Lean into the high drinking days and try to break up your drinking routine, push back, don't be bullied by the booze. After the first one or two, don't keep the glass in your hand. Maybe even keep it in a different room. Take a sip, go do some task, come back for another sip, etc. Drink slowly and notice how you're feeling. That will help activate the part of your brain that tells you you're done drinking for the night, so listen for it and act on that notion. Here's some more info:

It would probably be a good idea to get a blood test to see what shape your liver is in. This is recommended for anyone who starts on TSM because Naltrexone can be toxic to the liver in certain situations. If everything checks out it will also put your mind at ease that you have some cushion to work with before Naltrexone starts to decrease your consumption in earnest. Also, if you can work in two AF days a week that will also help your liver to repair itself.
