I'm an every-other-night drinker. I get drunk at night and sleep the next day. Doing this for awhile now...

So for twenty years I've kept this routine up, lost jobs, friends, basically no hobbies or anything else...just beer, cigs, and pot.

Was able to quit a few times, 4 months at a go, but always relapse, never satisfied, frequent depression.

Found out about the sinclair method 2 months ago. I take 50mg one hour before I drink anything, which is every other night.

I also take 1mg of klonapin every morning, which I've heard messes with the process.

So far I haven't noticed any decrease in my drinking...the first month maybe, but come on my drive to drink is like clockwork.

I am very invested in this pill, the science makes sense to me, however, I'm worried it will extinguish any positive experiences I have while taking it, like hanging out with friends and doing other activities.

Anyway, that's my story.

Homie, the pill will block endorphins in general and a couple of afternoons after your last pill is often a good time to go for some positive endorphin-releasing activities that will help you replace the bad habit with good ones. I've never heard that people stopped enjoying being out with their friends though, unless getting blasted was the only thing on the agenda.

What happens most times is an initial reduction in drinking, then the brain starts reaching out harder for it's "old friend" and drinking increases for a bit, then starts to roll down again. That's the way it went for me too.

The benzos may interfere with TSM, but it's uncertain. How long have you been taking the klonopin?

I was worried that TSM would cause me to not enjoy things other than drinking but have found that is not the case. I'm not sure how it discriminates.

Welcome Homie,

I have been doing this for over a year, and I haven't noticed any difference in things that I enjoy; however, I will get the "blues" once in a while, but that could be a combo of the nal/alcohol, hormones, and/or slight depression I have suffered with since a teenager. Just remember that we are all different, and will respond differently.

As far as the Klonapin goes, I think Bardo posted on here not to long ago that Benzos will not hamper someones progress. If I remember correctly it was a post from another board from Dr. Eskapa. Don't worry about that. Just make sure you follow that golden rule and with time things will progress.

It sounds like you had a honeymoon period and it lasted a month which is awesome and a good sign. I think my honeymoon only lasted about a week, but everyone is different.

Just remember that TSM can be like a rollercoaster ride and there will be ups and downs along the way.

Thanks for sharing your story, and I hope you come and share some more.

Jaba
