Hi everyone - I started TSM about a week and a half ago and it was suggested to me from another member here that I join - so here I am! I have never counted my units - I live in USA but am a transplanted Brit - they didn't use units when I lived there ! I think from seeing all your posts that I do indeed need to count units! I drink Murphy's which is similar to draught Guinness (in a can) - so will Google to find out the units ....

I have been on Nal for about a week and a half and think I noticed a difference the first few days but that went away .... do not really notice anything right now which after the flush of excitement initially is rather depressing .....I know I need to give it time.

I do not have any SE's - I don't think - I did feel nauseated one day but cannot say definitely it was the Nal - if it was, does that go away?

I need to trawl through the site and read a lot more - just wanted to say hallo to you all

:)

Hi Maggie

Welcome, you may find this site a tad quite at times, there are various theories such as this being a niche recovery method and perhaps many who infact do find a cure don't hang around too long afterwards.

I started TSM last October and had some doubts. However I stayed true to the one rule that's important with TSM. (Nal one hour before and drink as normal).

In my own experience it's worked and a few weeks ago I found that alcohol lost all appeal to me and I'm now totally indifferent.

I hope you well and please post as often as possible.

hi Maggie,

welcome to the forum :)

if you want to calculate units/standard drinks, have a look here:

http://rethinkingdrinking.niaaa.nih.gov ... ddrink.asp

it's worth tracking your units so you can see your progress over time, & putting them in your signature so other people can see it too

SE's do lessen over time as your body becomes accustomed to the Nal. people generally get fewer SE's by not taking the pill on an empty stomach - it needn't be a full meal, just so long as you've eaten something

all the best

Hi Thistime and Badger - thanks for replying. Badger I have found that my drink of choice is 1.8 units a pop! That is scary how many units I am having a week ...... but I will start recording them .... does one do it in a signature ? I will start counting and see if I can think back to Saturday !!

Thistime - great that you have done so well in such a short period of time !! I really do have hope that TSM will help me once and for all!

I had not told hubs that I was taking the Nal and today sat him down and tried to explain it - I have decided that I do not explain things well so will have to try and find a printable thing explaining TSM to show him! He also drinks but stopped about 6 weeks ago - through sheer willpower and I am so proud of him for doing so - but I want to be 'normal' - not have to worry if I ever have another drink!

Thanks both of you and I will make sure I take my Nal with food in my tummy Badger !

Hugs, Maggie :D

1.8 sounds about right for UK units, which would be about 1 US unit/drink - I'm guessing you're drinking 16oz cans of Murphy's? US & UK units aren't the same - a US unit is nearly twice (1.8x) a UK unit!

I'd say that was pretty much exactly 1 US unit:

http://rethinkingdrinking.niaaa.nih.gov ... ulator.asp

most people - even the Brits - use US AL units on here for simplicity

Maggie

As a rule of thumb, US units are recorded as about half UK units, so the 2.0 UK unit can of Fosters I was drinking equalled 1.3 USA units. To be honest it don't matter a whole lot as long as you measure consistantly so you can see your own progress.

Remember TSM is science at its best, took me a while to keep reminding myself that I didnt have to do much myself except follow the rule. I promise you the cravings will disappear.

The only thing that sets me apart is I have zero willpower and what has happened is beyond my wildest expectations. Have faith in the science read as much as you can and follow that golden rule. Then sit back and watch the miracle unfold.

Welcome Maggie and if you need something to explain TSM to your husband you may want to rent or buy this Video. http://www.onelittlepillmovie.com/

Also I wrote a post on here for Newbie's on side effects, etc. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3930

Hope this helps!

Cheeto, Thistime and Badger - thank you so much for the help - it SO helps - you really have no idea! Today when I got home from work (I had taken the pill at work) and got home, I actually followed what my body wanted rather than automatically have a drink - I did not want one - which I usually do - I am an afternoon drinker - usually stop around 5.00 (work odd shifts) and it was two hours before I had one - time will tell! But for me this was an extremely positive sign!

Cheeto - hubs will not watch a documentary about it - I will find something to try and explain it to him - I am hopeless at explaining stuff ...he is supportive though whatever I try ... he just stops when he decides it is time but always starts again .... neither of us have had any problems in our life through AL - we are lucky - I do not drink enough as I do NOT do hangovers, and only ever drink at home. HE has been very lucky in my opinion.

Thistime - I sort of felt that the cravings were not the same today - although I do know that this might be a one off but hopefully will gather momentum! I feel really hopeful about Nal .... and am going to follow it to the letter!

Badger - Murphy's comes in a 14.9 (15. oz.) can. I am not going to worry about UK or USA units - I am writing down how many cans I drink each day on my yahoo calendar. I think what worries me is that like today - I didn't drink when I usually do, but have not stopped any sooner either - but no worries - I am going to do this ! Although I started later I can feel no difference in that I am keeping going !

Thanks all ......

Hugs, Maggie xx
