Hi, I read the book and I'm anxious to get started! Alcohol has totally wrecked me (you've heard it before, but typical stuff). I currently drink a couple of bottles of nasty, cheap wine a night.

So, I'm so ready for a new start. I am going to look for a doctor to prescribe Naltrexone. Money is tight (alcohol-induced unemployment), so I don't want to have to doctor shop. Any advice for getting my prescription on my first trip to the doctor? I can't afford to buy online. I think, even with a doctor visit, it will be cheaper just to get a prescription.

As Ruthy said, most of us buy online. A few say they want to take it daily, but even then it can be hard to get a scrip unless you say you're going to abstain.

If you want to get your doctor on board, there's a chapter in the book about how to pitch it. I suppose you already read that.

I guess the gist would be that you want to abstain but know you can't, having failed at it before, and so you want this plan in place for if/when you slip.

Some people are collecting lists of sympathetic doctors. I think there's a forum thread somewhere.

There's also a clinic in Florida and one in California. If you happen to live nearby, a clinic might make insurance companies happier.

Do you have insurance now that you're unemployed? If not, online pill purchase might be cheaper than a doctor visit.
