Hi, been reading a lot of the posts on this site and am kind of excited about trying this out. From a drinking point not sure if I classify as an alcoholic - depends on what test you take. I like the tests that say I’m not :-) But definitely an abuser. Been drinking about 50 units a week (1 12 ounce beer = 1 unit) for quite a while (decades) mostly crammed on weekends. Starting to think it’s time to cut back. Never really bothered me before but getting older, alcohol is starting to affect me more. Also thinking about retiring in next 5 to 10 years and would like to get drinking down to healthy levels. Beers are typically like the Jays potato chip commercial – can’t just drink one. My days off I typically overdo it. If retired and still drinking at my days off level - won’t matter what test I take will be a bona fide alcoholic.

Started Naltrexone last weekend. 25mg. Was upsetting my stomach at lower dosage. Had a couple beers last night ended up dumping the 3rd one. Did definitely feel a decrease in cravings. Will bump up to this weekend. Got the book and started reading this week and will start logging my drinks.

I'm sure I will have some questions or more posts as I go. thanks

Well finished the book. Actually found it a little boring. Probably because I read so much on this site and did not learn really anything new. Pretty simple message "Take a pill 1 hour before you drink".

I did start a log and have been on this now for a couple weeks. Consumption down a little but biggest benefit I seen is that when I am drinking the follow-up cravings to drink more are definitely down. Usually when we go out I can't leave anything on the table and I will come home and have a few more in a very short period of time, followed up by an eating binge. 2 weekends in a row taking the pill and this has not been the case. Still go out but no binging when I get home - food or drinks.

I usually drink a lot less on weekdays (every night usually but within the books daily safe limits 3 – 4 beers). There has been periods where I would squeeze in alcohol free days during the week. Big drinking days for me are days off or weekends. Last week during the week almost had to force myself to drink a couple after taking the pill. It definitively killed the initial craving. But I wanted to reinforce the extinction.

I'm going try to cut out weekdays as much as I can unless there is some social events or cravings get bad -like to get the benefits I usually feel from working out - and the pill does seem to dull other enjoyments.

Overall so far kind of excited about this.

Good job Palerider!

I'm also seeing major changes in my binging, even left half a drink on the table when the wife and I were at an amusement park last weekend, wow!
