I have not tried the Sinclair method yet, I just wanted to join to read about other peoples successes or failures and think about maybe trying it.

I am an alcoholic, I got sober at around 32 and was in AA for 10 years. I was not an out of control alcoholic, but a high functioning alcoholic. I had become a very dependent drinker who would drink every day as soon as I came home from work. I would never black out or do anything crazy but was a sad alone depressed drunk. AA was good to me but I always felt sad that I couldn't drink especially when most of friends drink, most just socially. I felt like I was alone and wished I could join.

I always felt regret that I just quit without trying other options. I thought AA was my only choice at the time. Since I relapsed, almost a year ago, I have kept it under control, but I have the craving, which is getting stronger every day. I tried the new Declinol herbs and they did not work for me. I am currently seeing a Doctor who has me on Campral. I don't feel that Campral is working either for me. Thanks for listening.

Deirdre,

Welcome to the TSM forums you have come to the right place!

Here are my Quick Start bullet points:

- Spend the time to read through this forum especially other peoples stories. You'll discover what it's all about through others recants.
- Get the book and read it cover to cover. This will give you a solid foundation for TSM. http://www.amazon.com/The-Cure-Alcoholi ... or+alcohol
- Find a doctor who knows about TSM and/or one that will prescribe Nal. If you can't find a doctor that will prescribe Nal then order it from an online pharmacy http://www.alldaychemist.com/ or http://www.riverpharmacy.ca are the two most used by folks here. No prescription required.

Naltrexone and Campral are totally different drugs. I'm no doctor (so take this with a grain of salt) but the Nal along with TSM will eventually extinguish your craving for alcohol. Heavy drinkers completely screw up their brain chemistry and Campral can help restore the brain chemistry to "normal" levels. Some say these two drugs are complementary in helping us get alcohol out of our lives but it's the Nal that goes after the drinking behavior.

Dr. Amen (http://www.amenclinics.com) and his books are all about brain chemistry and how out of balance brain chemistry can make our brain function differently and drive us to do all sorts of unhealthy things (talk about summing up someones life work in one sentence). I think Dr. Amen makes some really great points and is something that should not be ignored. IMO TSM/Nal will extinguish/cure your alcohol dependent behavior and Dr. Amen's methods can help restore and maintain a healthy brain chemistry. As alcoholics we need both in our tool chest.

Rich
