...to register on this site. Ten attempts at the multicolored code just to find little buddy's name has two "l"s in it (the r u human question). ;)

I got the naltrexone after visiting a California doctor who specializes in opioid dependency. His little book said the medication I was requesting was OK (25 or 50 mg daily, FYI). Prescription bottle states "...every day for alcohol dependency." He also was the first doctor to tell me I am not a problem drinker at 6+ beers a day. He inquired if I meant 32oz beers; no 12oz, but could be 6 bottles of schlitz a lot of days. Then, he felt my liver and further questioned my dependency. Hey guy, my call, you're just the doctor. Got the script :)

It's working. Three 8.6% beers in (ok, I cheated a little regarding 12oz drinks) and I'm immediately noticing alcohol is no longer drowning my depression/anxiety. I depended on this effect, and now it's gone. Looks like I need to start facing the world again. I hope I'm ready for this, I kinda need to be, anyways. I definitely will do something other than sit around drinking tomorrow. Tonight, the medication has my head kinda spacy and my balance is off.

Don't let that last paragraph worry you, I am currently attempting to treat depression with buproprion. Talk about drugs that block effects, this one happens to mess with my enjoyable tobacco habit (the pill has the same ingredient as anti-smoking zyban). And I mean enjoyable using imported Swedish snus (the word is harm is minimal, and no where near smoking's hazards). I'm going to have to quit soon if I keep getting no buzz. What is an American do to without alcohol and tobacco? The third one on that list? Well lately, that seems to get no love either.

Welcome to the forum! Just curious, in what area of California is your doctor?

Started TSM Aug 2012. Had some success but over time the Nal SEs were so awful that stopped taking Nal. Managed a 30 day (Sept 2012) and 46 day (Feb/Mar 2013) AF period which also contributed to getting drinking under control.

Sure, Doctor is in Ventura/Oxnard. He was quick bring up antibuse, too. I know I've also asked my fair share of doctors to be refused that medication. Visit $70 and week wait for appointment, Med $35. Pill is made by Sun Pharmaceuticals.

I get it now, the therapy I'm in. Endorphin blocker. Eventually some alcohol intoxication will come back, but that rewarding feeling will not, allowing change in behaviors.

I am still looking for a Doctor in Northern California SF Bay Area. Any chance you could share your Docs name? Perhaps he will know one up here?

IGE,

Just a note, I started TSM on Jan 19, and decided to quit chewing domestic snuff, Grizzly, on Jan 22. I believe the Nal, with a bit of Nicotine Gum made my snuff quitting really easy. The booze quitting and reduction is a whole different story. Numbers are shrinking and I do feel less desire to keep on drinking.

Welcome to the board.
