I do know that if i talk with a friend on the phone I drink without thought. Lately I have trying to play games on the computer or have been coloring in adult coloring books. I may try adding another quarter of a tablet in a couple of days.

Sounds like a good plan, meggie. Let us know how that goes and how you're getting along in general!

Hey Meggie -

How are you doing so far? Did you ever find a TSM doc in NY?

Sorry Joe, I just saw this. No there is no doctor close to me. I am hoping that things will magically change for me one day. I have talked to two people that just woke up one day and didn't want to drink. I am back to drinking the same as this summer. I still crave the taste. Things are very quiet on the site.

meggie -

Maggie's right, hang in there and you'll get to where you want to be. You're about 6 1/2 months in now, I take it.

About how much liquor are you going through per day?

Are you taking any other meds besides the Nal?

Come yak with us more often, we'll get behind you!

The support is wonderful. I am on thyroid medication, a low dose antidepressant, and Keppra for seizures. I am drinking about 5 or more shots a day of vodka. I drink it with water. Yes, it will be 7 months on the 7th of March. I do well when I am out and don't crave or wish to run home to drink. As you stated before, much is habit and giving myself a sense of relaxation.

From what I can find, it's thought that Levetiracetam (Kreppa) actually decreases alcohol consumption. Perhaps google the name of your antidepressant. It seems that for any given antidepressant, some notice it increases cravings, some say it decreases them, some say no change at all. Maybe try to recall what happened to your consumption when you started on it. I forgot to ask you how much Nal you're taking at this point.

Well, keep pushing on with the mindfulness and see if you can make a dent there, watch your hourly intake, don't keep the drink close to you, that sort of thing. Have you thought of switching to wine or even beer?

I'll post a link to a great thread that St. Vincent started wrt how long it takes folks to get to a point of control using TSM.

the mindfulness is a good thing. try to make AL slightly less available around the house and it will help you out. good luck!
