If that should happen again, just hit your "show previous page" on your computer and what you wrote should come back up. You will have to copy what you wrote, and then paste it on a new reply post. It has happened to me too many times!

Jaba

Thank you Jaba!!! I'll try remember to do that!!!

I hope that you can get your wife on board with TSM. I can understand why people are skeptical. We have all be brainwashed to think that AA is the only way to get sober. Have your wife read the book, if she will. It makes so much sense. Have her read people’s progress on this forum. There is also a place where she can post as a concerned spouse.

I hope so too. She has had court mandated experience with AA, due to a DUI conviction (something which I have never had). She sees the sham of AA and is also for-the-most-part secularly minded. She is just really on my case because I am not seeing an MD for this and when I explain why, she does not appear to buy it. She really just wants me to start taking happy pills again like she does. I believe that happy pills are pointless if I am a hardcore lush and can even make and have made my problem worse.

Is your wife still drinking? It would be wonderful if you could go through the process together! In-home support would be fabulous.

She drinks but not as regularly as me. Mostly binges on the weekend. She would be a poor candidate for Nal without MD supervision because of absolutely necessary seizure disorder meds and mood stabilizers. She used to hit it a lot harder before the child was born; however, where I would be considered highly functional, she is a complete wreck when she drinks, and especially the day after. I have tried in the past to get her on board with abstinence jags but she usually watches me go three days without, decides she had a bad day, and comes home with wine, or she sends me out for some , and I simply have to get my own, too.

I just checked and the stuff appears to be out for delivery. Should I start with 25m or go the whole 50 to begin with. I have seen lots of conflicting recommendations. I am about 175lb and tend to drink six strong beers and a pint of whiskey every day, or at least two bottles of red wine on school nights. The weekends are off the chart.

Pleatherface,

I have to ask what is this "on-call me" drinking. I am assuming that you are on-call for your job so you try to drink a lot less, but I am concerned, for the nal does have some side effects, so when you start the nal. take only 1/4 of a tablet the first night. Some people feel nothing, and others have a heck of a time. If you feel nothing with 1/4 of a tab, the next night you can move up to 1/2. I would try to be off for a day or two to make sure you can handle the side effects.

If the tab is too small to cut into 4s, 1/2 of pill to start should be okay, if you have bad side effects on 1/2 worry about trying to cut it smaller later.

Jaba

Chart those week-ends, for it will help you in your process. So many times people will say this isn't working because they didn't realize what their intake was, or forgot how bad it really was. If you cannot chart (or forget count) guesstimate the best you can.

Hi again,

I started with a half a tablet (25 mg) for the first two days and then upped to the whole (50 mg) tablet. I experienced the same god-awful sleepiness the first two nights, but after that it went away. Now, three weeks in, I just occasionally feel a little "off" when I take it. I can't really describe it any better than that! Mayne a little fuzzy in the head... or the tummy.... or both! Just a smidge "off". No other side effects for me. And just for reference, I'm 90-95 lbs.

Best of luck when it finally arrives! The waiting part is SO hard!

My wife drinks pretty heavily nightly but she is very highly functional and hardly ever gets to that point of total drunkenness that I did every night when I drank. So it can be a little hard at first if you have not drank and you go to bed and smell a lot of AL on your spouse's breath. But it is your own battle and if you get that support that is great - but in the end it is up to you and science. It is funny that my wife has not asked a thing about my progress - or even how I feel I am progressing. Obviously she sees that I have cut back a lot but she still asks if I want a drink when she is pouring her cocktail. I feel pretty good when I tell her not tonight honey!!! I haven't taken a pill and am not planning on it.

So as far as the start off - I took a half a pill the first couple of days and two half pills on the weekend because I was drinking all day at the beach and then at night. I did have some stomach cramps that would come on suddenly but they went away with in the first week. And as far as how much you should drink when you start taking the pill I would say that if you are on call you would continue to try to drink a lot less than "normal". You will know soon enough if you are a real fast responder or not. if you are you will probably have very little to drink at all on your on call nights.

Best of luck and welcome aboard.

Reboot,

Do you think your wife might have a problem? I know we are not to assume others have problems, for they have to come to that conclusion themselves, but I was just wondering.

I do admire those that have spouses/partners or live-ins that drink and are doing this alone for it has be harder. OR maybe I am just weak-minded, for it is like being on a diet and smelling cookies being baked!

Welcome Pleatherface. I know it sounds crazy buying meds from India, but ADC is reputable. I have the same experience as Deena, USPS delivery and about 2 weeks.

I am sure you have seen it here, but it is crucial: YOU MUST TAKE THE PILL ONE HOUR BEFORE DRINKING, EVERY TIME. That is all you have to worry about in the beginning.

My results have been great. My drinking has been cut in half since I started. Tracking is important to keep you honest.

Good luck to you!! Newlife

So the package arrived and I took a half pill immediately. I felt a bit fuzzy in a half hour and waited an hour before taking a shot of whiskey. Followed that up with a couple 24oz Pabst and two more shots. When the wife got home from her late shift many hours later, she brought a six of cider. She offered me one which I reluctantly opened, took two drinks and handed back to her. I did not feel like finishing it, but I am not sure if that is because the Nal did the trick or that I actually felt drunker than I normally would because of the meds.

Today I did not really have a hangover because the amount I drank is pretty tame compared to usual. I did have a slight headache, which is unusual, and an allover body fuzziness, much like when I attempted to try Paxil or some other anti-depressant a few years ago. This feeling has lasted all day but in no way impairs me. On a side note my sleep was very sporadic compared to most drinking nights. That seems to be why I feel so tired today.

According to the crappy drink calculator app, I had 7.5 American units last night. That seems a little low to me. Does anybody know a better app for iOS?
