I'm on day 3 of TSM. Dr prescribed 1 50mg Nal a day and also 2 333 Campral twice a day.

I have been drinking for years (I'm 47) and slowly over time went from recreational, to regular, to almost every night, to nightly to more and more each night. I have been around 450ml ( 12 units ) of hard stuff every evening for some time now and decided it was time to quit. Really haven't ever tried before. I quit cold turkey for a month a couple years ago because I was taking a medication that said not to drink. But my heart really hadn't been in it although it did somewhat prove to myself I could stop if I wanted and I started back up slowly and quickly got back on the track I had been on.

I have been a very "functional" alcoholic though. Only drink in the evenings. Don't really have hangovers much, although that situation may have to do with a nutritional supplement called "Ruby Reds". There is something magic in there that when I started taking it a couple of years ago almost eliminated hangovers for me. If you have hangovers you might look into them, although for me that just made it possible to drink more without that natural safety wall to stop me... Think I read someone say that while on TSM hangovers were worse for them so I thought I would mention it... Anyway, never been
a "hair of the dog" drinker, don't drink in the daytime on the weekends, just when 5:30 rolls around its time for a cocktail and by 10:30 that means half to 2/3 of a fifth...

So I am on day 3, and Day one was 8 units and day 2 was 6... I really think I could just stop, but both want to avoid withdrawal ( although he also prescribed me Lorazapam which I could use to just go cold turkey if I wanted ) and also want to let pharmacological extinction work. Very hopeful this is going to be smooth sailing. It likely helps that I truly do want to stop drinking although I will miss it. But time will tell...

So a question that some of you may have experience with. What really got me to the "you have to quit now" place was tremors. I have told my Dr for a long time I likely drink too much and have watched Liver enzymes closely thinking that would be where the damage would be. They have always been normal. Did not realize some of the other potential damages. So I was concerned with the amount I was drinking and told my Dr 450ml and his eyes got a little wide and he mentioned tremors as another issue. I think I have had some mild tremors for quite a while, but had not noticed them much or wrote it off to being hungover without the massive headache that Ruby Reds seemed to fix. My question is has anyone else had mild tremors that went away after getting clean? I was referred to a clinic that does a lot of work with dependence by my primary care Dr ( who I had asked to prescribe me Naltrexone, but he felt he didn't have enough experience with it ) and the Dr at the clinic didn't seem to think my tremors would be permanent. Hoping they won't be...

Anyway, hello, and here's hoping this seeming miracle is successful for me and others...

By all means new friend. The tremors are a part of the alcoholic landscape. Yes, they will go away unless there is another underlying reason for them.

I'm no doctor, but as I've entered new territory in my drinking thanks to TSM (much less booze), I am no longer foggy in the AM , shaky or hungover. TSM if it continues on this path has been a God send. I am nowhere near done but my life is at this point very manageable. The boozing can be at the very least contained, where is in the past, I could never predict. Not to say you won't have setbacks as within the very past few weeks I have, but I can't say enough great things. It will be a wonderful holiday for all of us. Even if you're just starting, by summer (or winter depending on where you live) you will be markedly different. Welcome. Read many of the posts here,...you can spend hours and learn a lot. Best, Jim

Hey Newbie, welcome to the boards! I'm coming on 4 months on TSM so far and I still feel like a newbie myself. For me it seems like I just started this yesterday, but I have really come a long way in a short time. You sound alot like me in your drinking habits, the only difference being the choice of beverage. I have always been a heavy beer drinker myself but like you I have always maintained myself at home and at work for the most part even though I was drinking 10-12 beers a night almost every night. If you take to TSM like I have here's what to expect..... After a few weeks you will start to notice that you are drinking less than before at the end of the night or that your usual quitting time comes and there is more left than before. This will surprise you at first but if you keep true and always take your naltrexone 1 hour before taking that first drink things will change even more so. I am at the point now that I have a day at work that has me thinking of a night drinking till late. I take my Nal an hour before quitting time and by the time I get home and sit down I just don't feel like it anymore. I have really had a few nights where I have sat down with beer in hand and could not open it. At the time it pisses you off because you really wanted to get drunk but in the morning you will be like, "this **** really works!" I never had any tremors but if I had it would have scared the **** outa me like it is you. I do work with a guy that I know drinks very heavy and he has them. Everyone just acts like they dont notice it but they know. I'm sure it's just the booze man, don't sweat it just take your medicine 1 hour before you take a drink and your drinking levels will drop slowly off. Anytime you want to talk I'm here man. Take care and take your medication!

Welcome to the board.

Before starting TSM seven months ago I had some tremors after a few big binges and they scared the crap out of me. I'm your age -- 45. They made me realize I had to do something about my drinking habit, along with a few other "consequences." My tremors always went away as soon as I went a day or two without alcohol. Like you, I always tracked my liver enzymes and was always shocked when they came back normal. Tremors are definitely a separate reason to be highly concerned about drinking and your health.

Welcome to the board and good luck!
