Hi, this is R_C. I'm a Jr. Alcoholic in training. By this I mean I have trouble not polishing off a bottle of wine every night while at home. There are situations where I have needed to go a week or so with noting, but boy when given the next chance I'll have a couple glasses of your best Red, thank you vary much. :P Alcohol is not messing with my life....yet. And my wife is circling the wagons (and wants me on one)

I'm 65 and been drinking like this for 20 years. But the creep toward 1.5 bottles is working on me and I don't want to go there.....or beyond. I saw "Simple Little Pill" and have been thinking that maybe its time to slow this train down. I've been sober for over a week now so it's not like I can't do it, but every night at dinner I'm looking for that glass of red that isn't there. I don't want to work this hard!! So as I see it, I have 3 options.

1) Just stay Sober (but I like the taste of a good red and sometimes scotch with a cigar)
2) Go back to drinking and do my best to keep it down (Hard to do)
3) TSM (But I do like a little buzz)

I have a GP who is willing to prescribe for me and watch "Simple Little Pill". The option is mine.

OK, so I'm a lightweight, but I could use some advice from those in the Know.

Hey there!

I still get a buzz with TSM BTW. It's a little different but close enough to satisfy. The first few weeks are weird but it gradually evens itself out.

Welcome RC- TSM affects us all differently (from what I understand). There is no buzz when I take it, zero reason to drink. I don't get high nor excited about the night. It's flat. Zero buzz. Zero Pleasure. I drink out of habit and because I'm not 100% sure about facing an alcohol free night. I am hoping to be alcohol free soon. I have no desire to be a normal 1-2 unit drinker. I want to be abstinent. Good luck to you!!! Nal is well worth a try if you really want to quit!

After TSM, when you've achieved "Pharmacological Extinction" of your cravings, the vision of a glass of wine with dinner will likely disappear from the mental menu and you will drink more like your wife does.

That being said, you might also check out "Moderation Management", they're a group of folks that like a drink but don't want to get carried away with it and don't want the black and white world of AA.

I think you're a good candidate for TSM. the rush, or "buzz" is different, but Nal can really change your way of thinking to where your desire for that buzz really shifts. I'd recommend giving it a go.
