It seems like there is so much material here on this board that I wonder, what's in the book that's not here? In other words, why buy the book?

Hi XaJere,

You are absolutely correct in saying that there is a lot of material on this board. But there is a lot to be said for reading about the background to The Sinclair Method (TSM). And we often make references to specific information within the book. I, for example, have often referred to Figure 3, Extinction of alcohol drinking in alcoholics; if you don't have this graph available, you are at a distinct disadvantage. Dr Eskapa in his book addresses such questions as "Why Haven't I Already Heard of the Sinclair Method?" and this is the title of Chapter 4.

As the book represents a very modest outlay, I consider it a worthwhile purchase. And, no, I'm not on commission!

All the best.

V.

TSM is quite simple: take the pill one hour before you drink, every time you drink, for life. If you follow this rule, you are set.

Now, if you want to come to a full understanding of how and why it works, the book lays it out quite clearly and more succinctly than the various junkets on the board. Also, the book is very persuasive to people who may doubt the method, including health care professionals, family members and loved ones. It also includes all of the cites to the studies that shows TSM works. I think it's definitely good to have but it's up to you if you want to get it. You certainly can succeed on the method without the book but you probably won't have as good an understanding of what's going on unless you read the book.

Nick and Virgil have it in a nutshell

For me the starting point was the book, and then I found this site. The book gave me the great faith and confidence to invest so heavily in TSM, I certainly would never have taken a medication off-prescription that I had never discussed with a medical professional from website testimonials, however good the site (and this one is fantastic).

Now I am grateful to have the book to show to any future medical professionals involved in my treatment that I might need to; to no doubt lend to other folk, and as proof for doubting relatives and friends. Oh, and to re-read myself of course as it is fascinating and deeply encouraging.

Its my new Big Book.

Although I think we'll need a book ultimately that helps us with the mess our lives have become as a result of drinking.

Speaking for myself, I doubt I would be backed up in such a corner if it weren't for booze. It has virtually taken away every joy I once had, be it my marriage, music, exercise etc etc etc. As I regain my life over the next few months, I think there is room for say a 12 step like program that has some structure that could help us get our pride and character back....

I've brought it up here a few times. I'm not anti AA as I was in for 4.5 years but I think it has distinct therapeutic advantages holistically speaking.

But the nice thing and again I'm a spiritual person so I don't mean to sound contradictory, we could leave God out of it or the "Higher Power" as they say in AA. It could involve Eastern and Western philosophy,..and our own humorous additions...Nicks new serenity prayer!!!!

Take care,..last night was a bad night for me...but it was my fault. Exclusively vodka. I need to keep beer in me too but sadly I have to hide it all from my wife.
