Hi, I'm not an alcoholic but this is on behalf of someone close to me who is and whom I have suggested the Sinclair method to. He has been on Nal (Nodict) 50mg for about 5 months now. He went thru his 'honeymoon period' where he noticed a drop in cravings & drinking for the first few weeks but has gone back up to nearly as it was before. He is due to go on vacation soon and where he may be drinking in the day as well as evenings. We are in the Middle-east and where there are no doctors who dispense Nal or qualified to advise on dosage. How do TSM members go about weekend drinking or handle their vacation? I've seen conflicting info where its been said that Nal covers 12 hours and other info and sources that it covers the 24 hour period?

Thanks.

Mirmir -- It's not exactly conflicting. One 50 mg gives thorough coverage for about 12 hours, and keeps working for 24, but the coverage starts to wane. That is why Dr. Eskapa has told a regular, 24/7 drinker here that it would be fine to take two doses a day. The usual rule is 50 and, except in the very rare cases you may find here, 50 is fine even on vacation for most of us. If you think there will be endless days of 24/7 drinking, it won'hurt to pop another 50 and it might help. The important thing is taking it. You're a good friend.

I was a bit confused about this as well.

Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks lena. The person in question is my brother. He lives next door to me and I have been observing his drinking patterns closely since he took up TSM. A new development this week, looks positive. I have noticed his drinking is a lot slower than before. The amount of liquor he would consume in 2 hours, he now takes up to 6 hours. So I hope that TSM is beginning to take effect.
