I was prescribed naltrexone because I'm a problem drinker who drinks 2-6 drinks per night and I want to get control of my drinking before it takes control of me. I don't want to become an alcoholic, and I realized that if I continued down the path I was going with my drinking, I would become addicted. I started it on Tuesday and it took away the cravings immediately, but not the habit, so I have been drinking. I just heard of TSM. Will it work for me even though I don't have the cravings, but I still haven't gotten over the habit of drinking alcohol? (I am seeing a therapist tomorrow so maybe she can help me figure out a way to work out how to change my habits.)

Also, how long does it take on average? Another big reason I was prescribed it was because my problem drinking began about a year ago and I gained 80 pounds. Now I have 67 to lose in seven months before my wedding, and alcohol has really hindered my weight loss. The sooner I can abstain, the better. (I'm fine with having a few drinks on a special occasion or a drink every week or so.) My doctor says that even if I stay under my calorie limits while drinking, the alcohol is still holding me back from losing weight. (However, that's not the reason I haven't lost much weight so far... I haven't been counting alcohol as part of my calories because I didn't really want to quit drinking... I just now kind of looked at myself and realized I was seriously abusing alcohol. I did cut my drinking in half in June without any issues, however!)

I apologize if these are stupid questions. I'm new to this, and I want to do this right with both gaining control of my alcohol consumption and my weight.

Most people take 6-12 months, but there are improvements overall along the way. TSM is very up and down, as your receptors upregulate in a bid to find their "old friend" and drinking ramps up during those times. See the 4-month graph on this page:

Also search for "Honeymoon" on this site.

My drinking sounds similar to yours, but I do have cravings. But I think most drink out of habit as well. I cringe at the empty calories I consume in booze. I could stand to lose 30lbs. Congrats on your upcoming wedding! Have you considered taking an exercise class during the time when you most want to drink? That has helped me have some alcohol free days. During my "witching hour/s" usually 5-7pm, I go to yoga every other day. Or I take my dog for a long walk, which he loves. Going makes me feel really good and breaks that day's habit. I also bought an assortment of non-alcoholic drinks that I can indulge in when I finish my class. It's a healthy day activity. But quite often my healthy night feels ruined by the next night, which is often my "liquid yoga" (wine) night... sigh. I also make rules that I have to eat something and drink a no alcoholic drink before consuming booze. Quite often I'm just bored, tires or hungry. That leads to drinking for me. Anyhow, I'm just staring TSM too. Best of luck!

I have stopped drinking. Now I am very conscious of what I eat. I use a BMR calculator every single day to calculate my calorie intake like my life depends on it. It does depend on it actually because calorie is needed for us to continue living. But what I am confused about is if alcohol in general or most alcohol are high in calories?

I wanted to salute you that at least you think that alcohol is controlling you so you must avoid drinking alcohol. Well, this will not happen in one go you have to do the effort to get rid of it. I think this is the best essay writing site you have keep sharing updates.
