Ok.... quick question... so I took my nal last night at 5:00 pm and drank as usual. Today we are touring a couple of wineries. I took my nal, but we will arrive at the first winery omy 45 minutes after I took it. I'm thinking I'm covered. Thpugh, because it's been less than 24 hours since my last dose. Am I right?

Hmm. That is a good question. I do it on a calendar day basis, so I would have taken the nal before the winery tour. New day, new nal for me. But then I would drink that night without taking another.

Minnemom,

I think you are covered if it has not been a 24 hour period between dose (I am not a healthcare professional, so please take what I say with a grain of salt).

The theory is 50 mg will last 24 hours with a 1/2 of 4 hour and 13 hours respectively. Absorption:
Following oral administration, Naltrexone undergoes rapid and nearly complete absorption with approximately 96% of the dose absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Peak plasma levels of both Naltrexone and 6-ß-naltrexol occur within one hour of dosing.
(from drug.com)

So the 1/2 of the nal. is in you, you take another 50 mg before the 24 hours are up, and you should be fine; however, I would drink slowly and sip to give the chance for the entire 50 mg to be absorbed.

You can learn a lot by opiate users who use naltrexone. Here's something I dug up.

Poster wrote on blue light...

this is now more of an experiment for me........

ok well i did try a 20, 19 hours after taking naltrexone= nothing
then a 40, 22 hours after taking naltrexone=nothing
then a 40, 30 hours after and got a slight buzz.

Shouldn't really work any different for alcohol.

Saying that back when I used to post on here most members usually took another pill if drinking after 12 hours. Example an all day session. Saying that I could never drink for more than a few hours before getting bored!

This guy puts it well towards the end...

I took naltrexone 50mg for a week and then wanted to give myself a short break, first day off the naltrexone a full 36 hours later and after taking 5 Norco 10/325 pills, barely felt anything but I did get a little tiny nothingness, perhaps 25-30% normal buzz. Next day, about 48-60 hours later took 6 and it was a little better but still the rush wasnt really there, lets say 55-60% normal buzz. Next day, in the evening, so we are talking well over 72 hours, like 90 hours later than last dose of revia, took 5 vics and its about 85-90% of what it should be. A bit more of the rush but still not full on, figured my receptors would be sensitive but they still have that damn naltrexone doing its long ass Half-Life and then half of that and half of that half etc. Im sure the longer you take it the longer it takes to clear out since the oral pill is a huge dose of 50mg. Essentially what you experience when doing opiates shortly after taking naltrexone, is a slower climax of your buzz, so when it hits you slower there is less of a rush if any at all, but you sort of still get the warmth and pain reduction. Naltrexone works very well for it purposes. Kept me clean with only mild MENTAL cravings, basically just old fond memories of a good warm brain buzz. I imagine alcohol would require the same wait period. That part is a shame, I don't have a drinking problem and I wish I could still have a coke and rum when I visit my dad but it just makes me tired when im on naltrexone. After just a few sips im like, yeah this is pointless.

Black mountain,

That is one scary thread, and now I can understand why opiate user may OD after being on nal.

I am not sure when using nal. for alcohol vs opiate is the same, for that would take some research and access to some of that research needs an access code. BUT maybe someone here could chime in.

I do not want someone lurking thinking that they could take 50 mg and be covered for the next 3 day, for I think if that was the case Dr. Sinclair would have said so when he did his research. The nal might work best on alcohol in the first couple of hours before the 1/2 life sets in and even though it is still blocking the opiate receptors, it will not block the alcohol or the rush that comes along with it.

I personally wouldn't even go 24 hours with just 50mg, I'd take another 50 after 12 hours but that's just me. As I said above though, when on NAL its very hard to drink all day as its just becomes very hard work and not enjoyable at all.

I ran into much the same on other sites. 36 hours+. And, again, there is the use of ULTRA Low Nal (like .04mg I think) in conjunction with a dose of Oxy to get pain relief without addiction.
The thing is you can't readily tell with Alkies when coverage is worn off but you can with dope. You either get the rush or you don't. Sinclair didn't necessarily know so overkill probably seemed best.
Steve.
