I'm generally having 4 AF days a week, however when I do drink I seem to get blasted and not even try to slow down. This week I had 4 AF days, on day 5 I downed 12 beers following waiting 1 1/2 hours after taking NAL. I can't say I enjoyed it; just felt slow and stupid. No real buzz, and I wasn't having that excited feeling that I experienced in the past prior to drinking. I think I'm drinking this way because it's pure habit. Maybe I'm further along in the extinction process than I thought. Anyone with a similar pattern?

Hey Retread - sorry I cannot help with that problem - not sure what to say really - have you tried being more mindful when you drink? Having a glass of water between drinks - just trying to slow down? How long have you been on the nal this time? (I am having a senior moment - you were on it before - right?). How are the AF days going? Are they easy for you? Maybe try having more if they are? I am not sure - I think I am clutching at straws for you. I am amazed that you are not having any Nal-Overs with that many drinks too .... you are really lucky! Hopefully someone else will come along with more sense to say than me! LOL

Hugs, Maggie

Hi Maggie,
Yes, I joined in 2010 and quit twice for various reasons. I know TSM is working, because I don't feel cravings and do find it easy to have AF days. When I do drink, I binge like I always did. I really do think it's pure habit. I know TSM will work for me. It's going to take a little more time and effort.
Thanks,
Retread

Retread, are you usually at home when you binge? What are the circumstances? Are you often AF the day before a binge?

Hey Joe, Sometimes out, sometimes at home. I just screwed up big time. I'm at a trade show and we just had lunch delivered. One of the guys gave me a Bud Light and I downed it without even thinking. As soon as I realized what I had done I took a NAL and am waiting an hour and 1/2 or so. Got to be more vigilant. Best, Retread

One person mentioned that having a drink the day before a night out with the guys led to better control, because he didn't feel deprived.

Yeah, don't let those Buds sneak up on you! About the only way I could pound 12 was on an empty stomach. How many hours did it take?

Sounds like you need to throw in some interrupts there, find some way to break things up. Also, have you tried upping the dose to 75 or 100mg? My doc said some folks need more than 50, some less, some need to go up to 100.

Maybe if you can get your spouse to back you up, try having one or two a couple of days ahead of an event, then go out for a walk or do something that takes you away from it. Do you tend to stay up late when you drink?

Hi everyone this is Rebecca Ryan I joined back in 2012. I have had great success with Naltrexone! :D I swear it was a god send!
I do not post like I used to but I am going to try to post everyday from now on due to a few backslides drinking without Nal :(
Fortunately my backslides happened after two year of AF days so it was easy to stop again. Now I do find Alcohol free days easier. I get so anxious after a night of alcohol its just not worth it.

I wish everyone success!

Nal-ON

Nal on, Rebecca!

Were you missing the "old feeling" of drinking without Nal?
