I am still drinking every day, which I'm disappointed about, but I have cut back on the amount pretty painlessly, so that's good. Is it to be expected to still want to drink every day after two weeks on naltrexone? Will there be a time when that goes away? My ideal would be to have a couple of glasses of wine a couple of times a week. About how long should I expect it to take? I am on 50 mg. I can't up my dose because I am barely tolerating 50 mg due to nausea. Thank you!

welcome to the forum damy :)

two weeks is really early days, the fact that's you've cut back already is great news. keep doing what you're doing & you'll get to where you want to be, just don't expect it to happen overnight

Hi Damy! Welcome to the board! Two weeks is still really, really early! I would invite you to really dive into this board and read as many of the threads on the Progress page as you can. It will give you a much more realistic idea of how TSM works on "real people" than the bok does... assuming you've read the book! That's the second thing I would encourage you to do if you haven't... and that's to read the book. It oversimplifies things, but it's a great asis for beginning to know what you might expect. We're here to help.... keep on keeping on!

Danny - it is very normal to keep wanting to drink well into the first couple of months. Just take your NAL at least an hour before (the golden rule or GR). The results usually creep up on people and that feeling for wanting to drink starts fading away. So do not necessarily try to have an Alcohol free (AF) day any time soon unless it comes naturally.

A couple of hints, buy little pill holders and put them in your car, at work, and anywhere else you might need them. Also, try to keep track of your drinks (or units - a little more complicated) so that you can actually see your results as time goes on. Set a timer on your phone or watch when you take your pill so that you do not cheat on the time. This process is an up and down process. So do not be disappointed if you have a really good week or weeks and then have a couple of bad ones. As Minnemom said, read up on the progress reports so that you can learn what to expect going forward. And I think you asked how long you will have to take the pills - and the answer is that you should take it an hour every time you drink - forever.

Good luck and keep us updated

I agree that two weeks is early, but you might need to start doing some AF days and also develop new habits. I consciously decided to stop drinking alone at home and removed all wine in my home. I only bought it if I had a dinner party. This is very very helpful in the first weeks on Nal. Now, I can have wine at home and do not even think about drinking it. I still drink socially, but it is very important to start forcing some AF days early on - so that you develop new routines and also give the body some time to function without Nal.

Good luck on your journey.
