Hey just started TSM last night and continuing tonight. Drastic difference in craving more alcohol while on the naltrexone, kind of more of a "I can take it or leave it" feeling that wasn't there before. However, I noticed that some positives of alcohol, i.e. Being relaxed, more social, and some of the good feeling is still there.... Is this normal? I have used the 50 mg dose and waited an hour before

completely normal. AL works in a number of number of way in the brain, not just on the endorphin/dopamine system, which we're blocking with Nal. it's still quite possible to feel relaxed, sociable, etc. in a pleasant way, & equally quite possible to lose judgement, co-ordination, etc. & do dumbass drunken stuff too. what we're looking for Nal to do is take the buzz/high/euphoria/etc. off the top, which is the super-addictive bit

Ellpo,

In the beginning I still felt those things, but it will change once your intake is lower.

It sounds like you are having a really good honeymoon period, so try to be prepared if it wears off. Your brain will not like the fact it is not getting that endorphin rush and it will persuade you to drink more to get that feeling. It doesn't happen to everyone, but it can happen, and when it does it can get scary.

I am glad you are having a good response to the nal.

Keep posting,

Jaba

Last night I continued the process. Over a six hour period I drank 4 bottles of beer and one cocktail....unheard of for me. I am going to start tracking my units this week, I was between 50-100 pre TSM. In the past if I drank over 3 there was no going back until I blacked out. Feels good to feel like I'm gaining some semblance of control. Thanks for all the help so far, glad to have this resource and support.

Ellpo,

I am glad you are feeling a difference. Tracing your intake will help you in the future when you think nothing is happening. Also try to track you cravings/desire for alcohol if you can. It will help you establish if you are drinking out of habit or drinking because of physical/emotional cravings.

Keep posting when you can,

Jaba

As others mentioned it's perfectly normal and in fact it's probably why I still drink. I really do enjoy the taste of a well made craft beer and the benefits of the alcohol are still there to some degree. In fact really, I enjoy the beer better now then ever because now I can open up one good beer and drink it nice and slow while in the past I'd open the good beer, have two PBR (cheap beers) hidden on the side and probably a shot of vodka to boot just to keep the chase levels up as I looked all sophisticated sipping my expensive craft beer.
