Can someone explain to me in language that a child could understand how long a 50 mg dosage of Nal is supposed to last? How about 25 mg? What does half life mean? Really really dumb it down please. Thanks, Newlife

half-life is the amount of time the concentration of Nal is your bloodtsream takes to halve

there are two active Nal components in blood, one has a half life of 4 hours, the other is 13 hours

so, for the 4 hour one, after 4 hours the concentrations, is 1/2, after 8 hours 1/4, after 12 hours 1/8, etc.

likewise for the 13 hours one, 1/2 after 13 hours, 1/4 after 26 hours, 1/8 after 39 hours, etc.

I've never really seen anything on what each of the two components contributes to the overall effect, so it's a bit hard to say what the effective combined half-life would be

I don't think you want to look at increasing dosage for the effect to last longer. if you think 50mg isn't enough to block your receptors for a "normal" drinking session - say 4 hours - then you might want to consider 75 or 100mg

Actually it is the opposite I am trying to understand what I may be doing by doing down from 50 mg to 25 mg

Thanks for asking. I am getting sort of scared of having so much of it in my system because I have very few AF days. Also practical reason to make my supply last longer. And because it sounded to me from what I had read that lots of people are fine on less so I wanted to TRY it, figuring that if it doesn't seem to cover me I will just go back up again. But I want to understand as much about it as I can. Newlife

this is my own view, & certain people may not agree, but I don't think I've seen many people declare themselves cured on less than 50mg. some people have dropped their dosages successfully post-cure, but not many pre-cure. drinking without enough Nal in you to block your receptors is effectively the same as drinking *without Nal*

Thanks badger. I recall that you said that you recently increased your dosage. Has it made a difference? newlife

I think so, yes. I definitely feel a "blocking" effect after a few drinks which I don't think I ever did on 50mg.
