Hi Everyone I have observed the Golden Rule without exception since Mid October. My units go from a high of 61 to a low of 28, mostly staying in the 40's. I have heard many times that the longer one drinks the longer it takes for TSM to work. I am a very athletic and active 61 year old male who began binge drinking in college. I gradually progressed from a "week end warrior" to a daily drinker. My drink of choice is a low carb light beer, which probably explains why I'm still in pretty good shape. I have no intention of giving up on TSM. My question is this: once the NAL really starts to work is it a rather sudden event where I will see a rapid drop in units? I'm just a little discouraged and could use some reinforcement.
Best, Retread

Hi Retread,

I was watching some things with Claudia Christian over the weekend (trying to keep my hope/spirits up) and she mentioned to someone in the same situation (she was answering questions) to ensure that you have moved from 25mg to 50mg. If you have been on 50mg for around 6 months, she recommended to go up to 75mg. She did say that she has seen a few rare cases where someone needed to go as far as 100mg. It is my understanding that it often is a fairly swift drop when the extinction occurs. She recommended going to the 75 after 6 months and said that except for extremely rare circumstances you will see extinction by 9 months.

You are a real trooper. I am 1.5 months in and it feels like forever. Stick with it, not only for yourself but for those others who will have the same issue and will need someone like you to give them the encouragement they need to keep going until it works. We are warriors, blazing the path for those who come behind us!

:)

hi retread,

I found this from digging back in the forum - it's a few years old, but I found it quite useful as it shows that the vast majority of people don't reach 'cured' in a few weeks, or even in a few months, so hang in there & keep the faith!

Nal + Drinking + PATIENCE = CURE!!

As someone who was a daily drinker for over ten years, it took me a solid year and a half to finally achieve extinction.

You DO have to push yourself for AF days, but sooner or later you will find yourself just not interested. Don't forget that a lot of this is probably simply habit.

Also, I would be wary of pushing the dose higher. It's not about the strength of the dose, it's about the length of time required to rewire the connections.

I'm right at about the same amount of time as you Retread and feel discouraged many times but have to remind myself that per the survey in that thread that most people were at about 28 weeks where we are close but not quite there. I too would like to know if for most people it is gradual or they really notice a change when it comes about?
I also agree that as Dr Eskapa has said that 50 mg dose is quite enough to last 24 hours and upping the dose sounds like just a waste of money.
