So I've been taking Naltrexone (Naltima) for about a week and a half. I've experienced some side effects, like moderate to severe nausea and vomiting (that seems intermittent? possibly depending on what I eat before taking Nal) and weirdly, smell sensitivity.
I can't find this anywhere in the literature for Naltrexone as a side effect, but it's seems I'm uber sensitive to smells now. Something as simple as uncooked pasta with a hint of garlic sitting a few feet away reeks seems to trigger my nausea, and I'm smelling all sorts of weird odors everywhere that I can't even place.
I don't really have much reason to believe I'm pregnant and it's only seem to begin since I started Naltrexone. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a side effect of nausea itself? Or is it all in my head?

Side effect of nausea. I havent noticed it with nal, but if i am feeling nausea, I definitely notice smells.

What seemed to help me with the nausea was id take half a pill, wait an hour, then take the other half, wait an hour, then drink.

Thank you, sideeffect2! It seems to have subsided after a couple of days, but you definitely put my mind at ease.
Unfortunately, I'm still experiencing other side effects, especially nausea and stomach problems, but also lethargy. I'm disappointed because I'm on my third week now , I didn't think they would last this long. I even took half doses for awhile, but now it seems when I try to go back to half a dose I get even sicker.. ughhh

Could you possibly have liver problems? Nausea can be a sign of a struggling liver.

It's also just a side effect of nal, and that's probably what's going on, but I feel I should mention it in case you have reason to get that checked out.

I don't think I have liver problems, but I don't really know. I never go to the doctor. I'm relatively young and have been an alcoholic about 3 years, shouldn't be long enough to have liver problems but I suppose anything is possible? As soon as I get healthcare/obamacare I will see a doctor.
I thought I'd give an update if anyone is interested. The smell sensitivity went away and the Nal.. seems to be working! I occasionally have no interest in alcohol and I actually seem able to MODERATE my intake which was basically impossible before. I haven't had a black out drunk incident, in fact I'm getting no where near as drunk as I used to on a regular basis. My boyfriend has also noticed this progress and is very happy! He has been very skeptical but supportive and me not getting passed out, blackout drunk is HUGE.
However, I do still drink a lot and I am still suffering side effects the next day. Right now my stomach is rumbling. I seem to have a lot of gastrointestinal distress the day after drinking. I know it's not just the nal, because if I drink light or not at all one day I am fine. But after drinking a lot, I still feel sick all day. I've still thrown up once or twice in the last week, and I've been taking this stuff for two months. I guess it's just the "increased hangover" effect but I'm still a little worried something else is wrong with me.

FWIW, it really does sound like a nal-over. It might be better to ask a doctor than to keep worrying, though.

Many of us don't want to see doctors because of the stigma of having become addicts. I totally get that. There's no way for any of us to reach through the screen and diagnose you properly, though, so you may have to see a real doctor if you remain concerned.
