Hey all,

Just started TSM today and had a few follow-up questions on selective extinction.

Firstly, I am a mountain biker and that is my "thing". I will obviously not take a nal then go out riding. With that said, I am an evening drinker and will be taking my nal then. At what point/hour time will i be "safe" after ingesting my pill so I am purposely engage in cycling or another positive endorphin releasing activity so as to reinforce it rather the extinguish it? I guess I am sort of looking for a specific hourly (24, 48, 72 etc) clearance period on the drugs blocking effect (could be in the drug specifics section in the book but do not recall seeing it specifically).

Also, the book mentions using selective extinction after a month or two on the TSM. I have a race on June 15 and sort of need to ride/work out leading up to it. Would starting selective extinction this early in my process be a bad idea (ie delay the result we are after-the extinction of the addictive behavior)? If so, I suppose I could just not ride and drink a bunch like I normally do but was after some thoughts on this.

I guess, in short, is should I actively avoid ALL endorphin releasing activities/behaviors for the the first month or two? Kind of like when a dog gets treated for heartworms and MUST not exercise during the intial few weeks of treatment.

If not, exactly how soon after taking my last pill am I "safe" to engage in such behaviors? I ask because ideally I would like to actively use selective extinction from the get-go. if possible, as long as it does not delay the process and/or put me at risk to lose motivation for healthy endorphin related things I want to get "re-motivated" to do,

Thanks all

cs

Hmmmmm, I think you should just use the Nal when drinking, let it do its extinction and continue life as you normally would. As far as the endorphins from cycling or other physical activities are concerned, you probably (hopefully) wont notice a difference. I'd get a month or so under my belt before fine tuning the method. Just my two cents worth..... Keep us posted. Keek

I agree with keek. Also, I'm very active and love to hike, bike, play tennis. Nal has never affected my enjoyment of those activities the next day. The only thing nal has done is helped me control my drinking! Yay! Good luck to you. Let us know how it goes for you.

I think selective extinction is more theoretical than anything else. For alot of us, the effects are quite the opposite. Freed from excessive drinking, we are able participate more fully in other activities (e.g. exercise) that just weren't possible before. I would just wait and see what happens as far as TSM goes, and put selective extinction way on the back burner.

I'm involved in 'athletic' training and I tried to work out timing like this, but found it just too complicated and often didn't get the effect. I did notice some unregulation happening during sober/not used nal for 2 days days which coincided with workouts but couldn't get it timed right to do it regularly.

It's not harmed my training, in fact not drinking means I can train consistently now and performance is high as a result.

Concentrate on sorting the drinking, the rest will follow.
