I have tried to make sense of the standard drink unit calculation.

What I have read is that 0.5 oz of ethanol is considered to be 1 standard drink according to Dr Sinclair.

Since I am in Europe the "oz" don't make a lot of sense to me.

So I came up with the following calculation :

0.5 oz = 14g

1ml of alcohol equals 0.8g

so if I take a 4cl-5cl drink of whisky (40%) it would be one standard unit ?

4.5 cl = 45ml x 40% = 18ml (=14.4g alcohol)

I am happy for suggestions on the calculation using european measure tools (gramm, litre)

1 US unit = 14 g = 17.7 ml

So my calculation was right.

so 4.5 cl = 1 unit

Will calculate in US units then.
